Story Behind the Art:
Jorge Cistaro was born in Taxco City, Mexico. He worked in a small factory before the hard times set in and the management had to lay off many people. With not many avenues available, Jorge discovered his own skills as an artisan while experimenting with base metals like brass and alpaca silver, which are abundant in his region. Jorge was fortunate to meet a silversmith in Taxco who opened the doors of his workshop, and his wife offered to help fine-tune the details of jewelry items. Since then Jorge has created designs with metals like alpaca, an alloy of copper and zinc that looks like silver, and tumbaga, a gold and copper alloy that looks like brass. Tumbaga was developed and used in pre-hispanic days. This collection of tumbaga and alpaca jewelry has elegant designs for an affordable price providing Jorge with peace and a decent livelihood.
