Story Behind the Art:
Meaning 'For the Wellbeing of All' in Maya, Komon Utzil was found in 1989 by a Guatemalan anthropologist. She was touched by the generosity the local women showed her, but distressed by their lack of opportunities to earn an income. Making a living through weaving would allow the women to stay in their communities and homes, thus maintaining their traditional lifestyle, only better. Komon Utzil has worked in more than a dozen communities.

General shipping guidelines said I should receive it in about 10 working days. It took nearly a month to arrive so allow for extra shipping time. The background (base) color is more yellow than shown in the picture. The tight weave is wonderful - very sturdy but the creases refused to iron out. It is beautifully finished on both sides so no errrant threads to unravel. It came with NO cleaning instructions but I would recommend spot cleaning or dry cleaning. I think it would buckle if gotten wet as in a washing machine and since it doesn't take well to ironing, it could be problematic to make it lay flat once again. Overall - seems to be a quality textile.
