Product Features
Story Behind the Art
The lead artisans are two brothers: Saiyid and Mohamed Elham. Saiyid is 24 years old and Mohamed is 32 years old. They learned this trade from their father, who owns the kilns and commercial space in which the ceramics are created. Their father is the master artisan who teaches all of the new artisans. In total, there are 8 artisans who work full time or part time, all male, ranging from 18 years old to 55 years of age. Saiyid has also been taking college classes part time as he is pursuing a degree in business administration. Mohamed is married with two children. It is typical for younger artisans to live with their family as they save up money to be able to sustain a business of their own someday. Loans are not typically taken in this society, as it is difficult to obtain loans from financial institutions, most Muslims do not believe in borrowing money.
This is very much a family business passed on from the father to son.
