This eye-catching symbol was manufactured by the Agege carvers of the Ashanti tribe in a small village on the outskirts of Kumasi City. It is an ancient symbol that is found on a variety of handcrafted Ghanaian items. The literal meaning of the symbol refers to God as being the only thing to fear in this world.
The Story Behind the Product
Nana was born to a family of 9 children in the town of Kumasi in Ghana, West Africa. His parents divorced when he was only 8 years old and Nana became so rebellious that his mother sent him to live with his father in Tamale (in the Northern region of Ghana) when Nana was 12 years old. It was there that he developed an interest in art. He dropped out of school when he was 14 and started training with a master carver in Tamale. In 2000 Nana began selling his products through Worldstock. Nana is now married with 3 children and lives in Accra, Ghana. He is now a master carver with his own shop and 10 employees. Nana?s life has been so improved since he began working with Worldstock that he named his son after his contact at Overtsock.com.

Great conversation piece
I already had a beautiful cross in my kitchen, but wanted another spiritual piece above a door. When I read the meaning behind this symbol, I knew I had to have it. It is unique and people always ask me about it. Very beautiful craftsmanship.

I love this!!
I love buying things that not only give back to the people who made it, but also is saturated in meaning. This symbol is beautifully constructed and well made. It comes with a little leather hook on the back for wall hanging. Not to mention it is a GREAT conversation piece and a source of inspiration.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase-this beautifully carved piece is a great addition to my collection of ethnic decor. With its origin in Ghana, this symbol means "except for God", and symbolizes the supremacy and immortality of God. It is a nice size, and is a perfect accent for hanging on a wall full of other unique treasures. Great value, and so beautiful. I have decided to get a tattoo-my first-of the symbol! Highly recommended, especially for people who are as fascinated by the different cultures of the world as I am.

Amazing
this symbol has been dear to my heart for a while and I decided to purchase this for my mom to use in her african themed living room. She loved it and it complimented well as wall art. almost an inch thick and about 11inches in height.
