Story Behind the Art:
'We are a group of 13 women of Tzutujil origin, one of the 21 ethnic Maya groups. Our textiles are legendary! We live on the shores of the Atitlan lakes, in the Guatemala highlands. Everything we make, we craft with our hands and with natural materials and dyes, so we may stay true to the artistic techniques developed by our Maya ancestors. Our Tzutujil people have proudly passed them on from one generation to another. We work from home and we are each other's source of comfort and support.'

Pretty in Purple
I bought this to wear with a dress to a wedding..I reurned the dress and kept all the accessories that I bought to go with it includiing this shawl..It is so pretty and light weight and the perfect cover up. I have also worn it as a skirt type cover up. The craftmanship is awsome when you think about it..A PERSON actually made it...it's wonderful:)

This was a gift for a very dear friend who is hard to shop for. The shawl was perfect in so many ways - a product of Latina women's artisanship, all natural fibers, and glorious color. Since we have little cold weather here, it is perfect as an evening wrap practically anytime or to ward off the chill of an over-cooled office. She was delighted with it. If only the lady responsible for this World Trade item could have heard the praise! The cost of the shawl was within budget with the quality of a more expensive item. There was a lot of searching, during which I rejected man-made fibers, dryclean only, or any other factor that might have interfered with frequent enjoyment. A number of more expensive comparable items fell into these categories, and this was the perfect choice.
