Story Behind the Art:
These rugs are hand-knotted by nomadic weavers and sheep herders traveling along the countryside. These artisans pass on the rich traditions of raising local sheep to harvesting the premium wool to handcrafting these rugs from generation to generation. They artisans have imported looms and techniques of revered Aubusson crafters from France to recreate these Aubusson rugs down to ever last detail. Aubusson rugs have a rich and romantic history stemming from the Renaissance period from the town of Aubusson located in the Ceruse valley of central France. The vast heritage and romance has been passed on and now passed to artisans in China to keep this treasured art alive to replicate this treasured rug.
