A symbol of true love, this mask represents the African family style of love and devotion. The Sankofa love symbol on the mask represents the idea that you do not leave the one you love behind. The mask has been hand-carved out of Sesse wood and is sure to become one of your favorites.
The Story Behind the Product
Akwasi Agyeman was born into a family of 12 children in the small tribal village of Foase in Ghana, West Africa. The family was so poor that Akwasi was limited to only a 7th grade education in order to help his father farm to feed the family. In 7th grade his teacher asked each of them to make something for art class. Akwasi produced a Fertility Doll as his project and amazed the teacher. Akwasi knew then he had a natural talent for carving. After ten years and with the help of Fair trade Akwasi is now married with two handsome boys. He employs 15 people and has built a small three bedroom house for his family. Akwasi and his fellow artisans hope you enjoy their work.

Makes a Great Gift

Cute!
The mask is not quite what I expected, it looks more "masklike" in the picture. It is very flat, but I'm okay with it. The color is more matte. I bought it to hang on my back door, instead of a wreath, and I must say it looks good hanging next to a large Hibiscus plant. This is not a ceremonial- type mask, it is merely for decoration.

Im not sure what I was expecting, but the mask seemed a little less substantial then what I wanted. I like it, and I might keep it for myself, but it wasn't what I had in mind for the person I bought it for.

Lovers Heart Mask (Ghana)
I was prepared for the matte black finish after reading the other reviews. I actually PREFER the matte finish. When you're looking at the photo, the sheen from the flash makes it difficult to see the details in the carving. It's a simple design, but a delicate, beautiful little piece. I'm very pleased with it.

This is the fifth of five masks that I ordered... to join my collection of over 60 masks... It is flat black... which at first was a bit disappointing to me... but after a while... I decided that I like it... It arrived in just eight days from when I placed my order...
