- Measures 11 inches high x 8 inches diameter
This fine Chinese piece is hand-crafted by artisans working in the tradition of China's Fujian Province, known worldwide for its dazzling wood carving and lacquer-ware. Features an indigenous Fujian lacquering style which uses seven carefully polished layers of lacquer-tree sap to create a complex, beautiful, and sturdy surface; each piece is then antique-finished for a gorgeous authentic look. The resulting surface has a matte finish, unusual among Chinese lacquer furniture, which is usually very shiny. These pieces are based on traditional designs steeped in ancient Asian history, and exhibit many common natural and cultural motifs, often adapted from ancient and beloved Asian art. Motifs include birds, animals and flowers, which are meaningful in Buddhist- and Confucian-influenced cultures.

HUGE!
This is a very nice canister! It is as described. However, I really didn't pay attention to the actual size in the description. When I opened the box, it was huge! This is way to big for tea. I had to return it because I had no use for it. It's really a shame, because it really is a nice piece. The return was very simple and the credit to my account was very quick.

This is intended as a holiday present for my in-laws, who are both enthusiastic travelers--within their limited means--and supporters of fair trade consumption. This storage jar is elegant, exotic, very simple in design, and I suspect could be used for many things in addition to tea. It could be a decorative addition to any room. I am tempted to keep it. But I won't.
