Lai was exposed to the craft of jewelry making at a very early age. With knowledge and experience gained through this environment Lai soon began making and designing jewelry of her own. Lai describes her passion for jewelry in her own words: 'I have this understanding of how the colors as well as patterns and designs of stones come together. It is not hard for me to visualize how to put the natural stones into these floral designs because I love doing it.'
