Story Behind the Art:
Aj Quen is one of Guatemala's oldest non-profit weaving associations, founded in 1989. In Cakchiquel, aj quen means 'the weaver.' The association includes 26 artisan groups for a total of 800 craftspeople, of whom 96 percent are Maya women. Most work from home. The association works with community development, teaching reading and writing. Aj Quen weaves more than fabric. It weaves culture.
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.
