Story Behind the Art
We are one the oldest and largest handmade weaving associations of Guatemala, which combines mayan men and women, who work in a collective and supportive effort for the handmade textile production of the most original and folkloric looms in the country.This product was made by one of our 26 groups of women weavers, named Chaquijya, located on Solola, Chimaltenango, Guatemala, This group borned in 1988 with 14 women, later others joined of the above mentioned organization coming to a total of 150 women, in the main widows that it is born of the difficult socioeconomic situation and of the suffering of the armed conflict that suffered the country in the decade of the 80.
