Story Behind the Art:
This pottery is made from a ceramic collective in Chulucanas, Peru. Chulucanas was once the home of the Vicus people who were famous for their ceramics. The Vicus often used negative painting techniques and geometric designs. In the 1960s local artisans started to revive the Vicus technique of negative designs creation through placing the pottery in an oven of burning mango leaves. Slowly the region once again became famous for its pottery. In 2005 Chulucanas pottery was designated a Producto Bandera del Peru the only handicraft product to receive such this designation. Chulucanas is located in Northern Peru. The region is far from any major tourist destination and has little sources of employment. Ceramics have given the community a source of pride and employment.

Very global. Great accent for my living room. Trying to place a few modest bluish pieces without overdoing it. I have a South American print that it compliments nicely.

Not what it seems
for the price it's ok but I do not like the quality of the product. It does not appear to be ceramic and looks old and dusty. I also thought it would be bigger than it seems when you actually hold it. Not a fan of this product.
