Story Behind the Art:

This Balinese Mask comes from the Island of Bali, in Indonesia. Bali is very well known for its artwork because many artists live there. The mask you are looking at here was made by a group of artisans who live in the town of Ubud. The original guardian masks came from Bali's neighboring island, the Indonesian island of Lombok. Lombok Masks are intended to hang at the entrance to one's home to ward off ill will. They might also be used in this same way in a special area within the home that needs spiritual protection.
