    The Story Behind the Product

    This product was created in Central India. When the British removed its armed forces from the region in the late 40's a majority of the industries available for the local economy went with them. The indigenous people went back to the traditional crafts and furniture manufacturing that they had known for generations. Several hub cities of industry have flourished, creating numerous, sustainable, and stable jobs for the people of the surrounding villages. The industry that has been created by products like this has created an unprecedented number of schools, hospitals, and improvements in the infrastructure of the area. This industry has truly created a renaissance in economic growth in the region.

    • Excellent buy

      We bought this for our family room, and it's turned out the be an excellent find. It's terribly simple to put it together, I don't think my husband even used tools. It's solid wood and very heavy to move for a coffee table. I think the value on it could be better, but you still won't find a solid wood contruction for this price. The only real downside is that it marks easily. We have to be careful to use coasters when sitting at it and it scratches easily. I wouldn't recommend it for a house with young children, but I'm still excited about my buy.

    • Nice table...

      I've had this table for about a year, and it has held up quite well. I was worried when it arrived with a slightly out of square leg attachment, but the bolts went in correctly and it looks quite nice. I've been lazy and haven't kept it waxed like they recommend, and I would suggest that you do it once or twice a year just to keep the top looking nice. All in all, it's a good table for the money.

    • GREAT piece

      As always, my table came quickly from Overstock....I am constantly amazed at how fast "O" ships. This table is extremely solid....refreshing to NOT have veneers in this day and age. The assembly was fairly quick, but I had to try, try and try again to get the bolts to insert into the legs---assistance was required. However in the end, the tight fit was actually advantageous providing increased stability to the table. I used a rubber ended mallet to assist in getting the wood inserts into place to maximize the firm hold of the bottom shelf. The wood is beautiful, the piece solid. I have not noted any issue with scratching or marring of the top surface as some other reviewer had noted....but I have warned all house occupants to use care. It has a rustic feel about it, yet it is solid construction. The only appearance issue I had was the notable appearance of the supporting bolts under the tabletop surface. Also in a perfect world, I would have the table be twice the width for my living room that has both a sofa and a love seat as it does not suit both as a coffee table, so I eneded up using it as a bench. One reviewers suggestion to use it as television stand, I found intriguing, but the table is not very high and could seemingly put the television too low, unless one has an enormous screen.

    • It looks great

      It looks great!!! However you may have to take it apart and put it back together a few times b/c it doesn't come with instructions. Here is a tip. There are numbers on some of the parts. Be sure that the numbers that are alike are on the same side.

    • Packaging

      The table looks nice in the picture but the pieces don't necessarily fit well together because of buckling - almost as if the wood was either not fully cured or stored properly. I can also feel where he wood was joined on the top - I hope it doesn't separate!!!! Maybe I should have gone with the table I really wanted which was over $500.

    • Asian Style Coffee Table / Bench

      The Asian Bench is beautiful! I love the simple lines and rich deep brown stain on the wood - which has really lovely grain. I am actually using my bench as a media stand to hold my 50" projection TV and it looks great. One of the reasons I like this piece is that it is so versatile.
