Rod puppets or 'wayang golek' are one of Indonesia's most original art forms, especially popular in West Java. Making wayang golek is a skill handed down from one family generation to the other. Master puppeteer Nono Supriatna was taught by an uncle, while another uncle, a renowned puppet master, taught him how to perform. Nono must know the stories, histories, personalities and conventions of gods and heroes. The puppeteer also sings and directs the gamelan musicians as he performs. What is Worldstock? The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design.
