Real alabaster, substantial heft, good value for the money, casts lovely warm yellow glow when lit. Very heavy—requires stable placement. Huge color difference when lit (brown, beige, caramel, gray) and unlit (yellow, amber, slate), so choose for atmosphere or design rather than color match. Each lamp is unique, so there are no matching pairs. I bought 2 flutes for symmetrical placement. The grain of one is vertical, the other horizontal. This is fine, but I did not think of it when ordering. Bottoms are not covered, so use felt pads or other protection to avoid scratching furniture or other surface where placed. EXTREME differences in quality of workmanship. One lamp is perfect, balanced, smooth, well crafted. The other is unbalanced, wobbly, rough-cut, and uneven in thickness. Had to pad for balance and file down rough spots. If I had received only the rough one, I would have returned it. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with these lamps after my own alterations and would order them again. Their light is soft, soothing, and striking.

This lamp is very poorly made, the bottom of the lamp is rough and not finished and will scratch your furniture. The inside of the lamp is rough and unfinished. When screwing the bulb in you have to be very careful not to push the whole fixture through the bottom of the lamp. There is a rough unsanded cut made on the outside base of the lamp for the cord to go through. I am shocked overstock even sells such a poorly finished item. However as the other person said it does give off a very nice warm light to your room. But too unfinished to keep unless you want to try and cover the bottom and have the cut made for the cord fixed. I am going to be returning it and I hope that I am not going to have to pay the return shipping for this item.
