Story Behind the Art:
Serapi is a trade name given to better quality versions of Heriz rugs thought to have been woven before 1900. Such rugs are sometimes called Serapi Heriz. This particular rug is a Heriz design that was made by the Afghan refugees in the Pakistani camps. The weavers got their wool from local villages and the process of cleaning and dyeing was done inside the camp. The weavers no longer live in the camp, they have now moved back to Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban government. The rug is 100-percent wool with vegetable dyes.
