The Dawn of Red

I recently starred in the Overstock.com 2010 holiday commercial. OK, I'm only in it for half a second off to the side of one shot (pause at 0:13 to see my hands packing sheets into a box). But it was a fun and interesting experience being behind the scenes of a large-scale production, and I thought it was fantastic that the company gave employees a chance to be actors for a day.

Everyone was extremely nice, from the makeup attendant to the production assistants, which was good because it turns out that acting is waiting. I'm rethinking my plans to star in a movie due to my lack of patience.

As we waited, we dressed in red Overstock.com T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts. The wardrobe coordinator complimented everyone, saying we all looked great in red. I told her that you're not allowed to work at Overstock.com if you don't look good in red -- but the more I think about it, the more I believe that everyone looks good in red. It's a bold color that brings out pink, red, brown and blue skin undertones. Almost every hair color looks better with a bold red background, and a bit of red lipstick in the right tone looks nice on any woman.

Red is a great color for any season. Red plaid blazers in the fall, red cashmere scarves in the winter and red gingham sundresses in the summer can enhance any wardrobe. Red clothing and accessories are especially fun for cooler weather. Just picture yourself in a new red sweater by the fireside with a lover or a favorite old book. Whatever you do, do NOT forget the red wine! It brings out the fire in your eyes and your mood.

To ease into the red trend, I'm considering trying a new pair of red shoes. Red shoes can be subtle and feminine like these pretty rosette platform pumps or bold and eye-catching like these red suede boots. Red handbags are also going to be fun for fall and winter this year. This red elephant handbag is handmade in Thailand and will give your look international flair. This large messenger bag is made of seatbelts and offers an incredibly fun texture.

For men looking to try their hand at a red wardrobe, this flannel shirt is right on trend. My absolutely favorite red item is this silk scarf from India. I wonder if the day will end without me purchasing it. This red jade ring has been tempting me for months, and I could wear this red plaid poncho with anything.

I really could go on listing red products all day, but it is turning out to be a dangerous way to pass my time, budget-wise. Which red products are your favorites? Have you ever been on television?

I'm not sure whether the combination of lumberjack flannel and Indian silk scarf is quite my style, Maegan. But I'll give it a try ...

I absolutely love that red coat. I'm pretty sure I have to have one like it. I'm digging her olive tights too! What a great color combination!

I absolutely love red and always have. I am dying to have a red peacoat and a red sheath dress (though I wouldn't wear them at the same time). My TV debut was so embarrassing that I couldn't even watch it, although my parents taped it and stored it somewhere in their house.

Red is my favorite color. I have a scarlet red silk blouse that I adore and a red-and-black tartan cardigan sweater with brassy buttons that friends keep borrowing. Love the red rosette platform pumps. They are the perfect holiday party shoes!

You got me: I have added the poncho to my cart. That is the cutest thing ever.
