This is the perfect safe to keep by the bed. It is easy to open at night (in the dark) and the door opens quickly for easy access. The audible alarm is great if the kids (or someone else) tries to open the safe. I prefer the EV600 over the EV400 as it fits my 9mm better and has a little extra space for ammo without taking over my bedside table. If you plan on putting bigger guns or additional items in the safe, I recommend the EV1200.

The safe is a good size. Able to store two handguns and extra clips with room to spare. It comes with screws to attach to a wall or secure to a shelf. It takes 8 batteries but an outlet plug-in is included if you put the safe near an outlet. I didn't have any trouble installing the batteries. The directions for programming the code was easy. I have tested it several times and it works great.

You can't go wrong--the combination is saved in event of power failure (competition defaults to the factory setting...think a thief could figure that one out?), light (competition charges extra), and a visual que (sound optional) that you have hit a key. I have two of these and would not hesitate to buy another or recommend to a friend.

We love this safe! It is the perfect size and quality. It was easy to program and is quick to open. A light on the interior is an added bonus.

I had looked at this exact model at a local merchant. This was the same product with a savings of at least $20. I am a first time user so I also received an additional savings. I am hooked.

I bought this gun vault right after I got my CC permit and new weapon. I wanted it for home security and to be able to access my gun in a hurry. It worked great for about six months and then the door would not open when I put in the code. Without that function the vault is virtually useless. I contacted the company and asked to have it repaired under the warranty. They never called back and never repaired or replaced the unit. Don't waste your $ on this item

I was very pleased with this safe. It's the perfect size for a single short barrel handgun and a couple spare clips. The combo lock is easy to use even in the dark and it's built well. Good value in my opinion.

Bought this safe after researching options online...overall good experience at Overstock.com. I agree with a previous reviewer who commented on the delay while in sleep mode. After not being opened for a period of time, the safe goes into sleep mode which means the first button or two you push does nothing until it wakes up (about 1 full second), then it allows you to enter your 4 digit code. Still, for the money, it fit the bill well holding a full size 9mm, extra clip/box of ammo etc. Would highly recommend this product to people with children.

This is the perfect safe, everything fits good and i like the key code entry system. Also has a light when opened. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Shipment received in short order. This table top vault is perfect for my needs. I purchased this after reading the other reviews. Quality is very good to excellent. I found battery installation not at all problematic like some other reviewers. Programming is simple. Lighted combination pad is great although can easily be done without seeing it. I like the interior light. Used late at night with no other lights, this comes in real handy to see what you're grabbing. I did purchase self-adhesive nylon pads to act as feet on the safe. These "feet" keep it from sliding around and from scratching my furniture. I am glad I got this unit and would recommend it to anyone needing this type of security.

I like this vault a lot. It was easy to set up and seems to work great. It's fairly heavy duty for what it is designed for. It's not like a minature safe by any means but works for what I need, which is to keep small hands from easy access to my firearm. Only thing is I wish it was a little bigger or had a shelf in it. But I am pleased and think it is a good all around choice.

Works as advertised. Looks nice. I'm able to easily have 2 pistols in it. I feel much safer knowing children can't get to the weapons but I can relatively easily...even in the dark!

I've only had this for about a months, but still... I wanted a safe to keep my gun away from my children. this does that and more. works great. the light up display is awesome and the little courtesy light inside is a bonus. simple to use and set up (although installing batteries takes some time). I'd buy another one in a second.

I initially bought a Gunvault, but was turned off by its poor construction and bad finish. I tried the Gunvault biometric model, and immediately realized that it was completely unacceptable for its intended pusposes. It just didn't work. I then bought the Winchester and was immediately impressed by the much higher overall quality. It works really well. Overall finish and quality of the components is far superior to the gun vault. Easy to set up, program, and use. It is not a biometric model, but that's OK. The only criticism is that sometimes, all you do is enter the 4 digit combination, whereupon the door opens. On other occasions, however, you must hit a button to turn it on, then enter the 4 digit combo. This is easily remedied by looking at the screen, but if you are opening this thing in the middle of the night, your attention may be diverted elsewhere. I am confident that this will enable me to retreive my pistol quickly, if I ever need to, while simultaneously preventing my kids access.

I like this product. Sturdy. Seems well made. Door opens quickly and smoothly. The only reason its not a 5-star item for me is the fact that it has a sleep mode and takes a second to wake up. I've got it powered by batteries though. I suppose maybe if it were powered by its power cord instead, it may not do that. Anyway, that one second delay is a little frustrating, especially when the whole idea is quick easy access for home defense purposes.

Arrived in good shape, and works well. The battery placement is a little akward, but it works.

The only think I don't like about this safe is that, as far as I can tell, a button has to be pressed to get it to "wake up" .... one mississippi .. LCD panel turns on ... ok now put in the combination. It took a little getting used to. That being said, it seems completely adequate for the task at hand and I have no worries about its construction nor ability to perform when needed.

This was exactly what I was looking for. It is large enough to hold 2 handguns and 2 small boxes of ammo. It was wasy to change the combo and seems sturdy. The light inside isn't really bright enough to be useful, but overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.

The safe is everything I had hoped. It was easy to set my own combo, and I like the way that the display lights up in Indigo blue when a button is pressed. After entering your combo. the door springs open quickly. It has enough room for a standard gun,a few magazines, and a box of ammo. Very affordable insurance to keep your handgun in a secure place.
