These are great. All wood. It's a pretty small set, so I bought two, and my kids use these along with the old school wood block set from when my husband was a kid. They can make quite a kingdom. Really cool, and a good price. My kids are 3 & 6.

The modern graphic packaging is what drew my eye to this product at my local Bed Bath and Beyond Store during a Christmas shopping excursion last December. I wanted something androgynous and challenging for my almost three year old son and daughter twins. These blocks were a promising choice in the neutral packaging and natural wood finish, despite the model being a boy. With my 20% off coupon in hand, I was excited to buy the blocks and show my kids how to start designing buildings like their mommy. Gender Neutral Finish The blocks have a natural finish and can stand up to the inevitable chewing on by my younger girls. This finish gives them more freedom in their imagination and play with them. All of the blocks hold more play potential because they are not ruled out of a building scenario because they are pink or yellow. Without the coloring, the kids can focus more on the composition, which was my intention. Quality Pine Material Pine is a dense soft wood that holds up to wear and tear well. The graining in pine adds a unique quality to each set. The pine blocks also hold the stain details very well. They are made in China, so it is hard to tell exactly which species and they are not a local product to me in Lawrenceville, GA. Unique Shapes The shapes in this set are carved well but also maintain the aesthetic of the basic building block shapes: cube, cone, plane, and cylinder. The carved lines imply a roof without calling them a specific material. This also adds to their play potential. The shape with four columns connected by arches is the most architectural and ends up in almost every one of our builds. Graphics Stained, Not Carved The window and door graphics look so real at a distance and in some of the advertising images that it can be easy to assume they are carved cut-outs, but they are stained only. This was not an issue for me because I think it makes keeping them clean easier. The children identify them as windows and doors all the same. ...The Bottom Line This is a great block set. I would definitely recommend this product to others looking for a unique block set that appeals to both girls and boys. It was worth the money and I hope to add more of these sets to our block collection in the future.
