  • Working great so far

I compared these panels with a competitor brand and these were significantly less expensive but the competitor brand had a 12 year warranty and these only had a 5 year warranty. However the price difference was significant enough that I could purchase 2 of these for less than the competitor panels. I therefore decided to purchase these panels. I purchased 5 of the panel packages and had them mounted on the roof. I have them controlled by a thermatic controller (thermatic valve). On the very first day of operation (early May) pumping only 4 hours (no increase to my filter duration) it raised the temperature ~12 degrees (to 82 degrees F). By the second day the temperature had hit our thermatically controlled setting point of 84 degrees. I suspect we will easily extend our swim season by ~4 months (used to be June through early Oct, now I suspect it should be Mar through ealry to mid Nov). This is exactly what I was hoping for when I purchased these panels. I do recommend getting and using a thermatic controller with these panels. So first week installed they are operating great. Now I just need them to continue to operate as well for at least 5 years. If they fall apart in less than 5 years then I should have gone with the other panels.

I love my solar heater. Only thing was I had to buy 2 boxes to heat my size pool (14,000 gallons). I wish they had had the box with 4 panels instead of 2. I was reading under questions and answers something about the box coming with a solar blanket. It does not come with the blanket. It is strictly the panels and clasps. I also bought the roof kit. It worked perfectly when installing the panels. Both were much cheaper than elsewhere. My Florida pool is more like a hot tub now.

  • Works super with some weak links

Bought the basic kit for Lake Havasu where temps are up to 117. System went on easy. I purchased the recommended installation kit. My pool uses 2 inch PVC so the 3 way valve was useless. Plan on spending another $90 on a Jandy valve, The weakest link are the rubber connectors. Left the unit running the first day and came home to find a half empty pool. The connector had split and pumped water down my roof for hours. Replace with Lowes 1 1/2 connectors which are twice the thickness at about $1.50 each. All in all the system heat wonderrfully.

    • How accurate was the sizing? Very
    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Good
    • Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? No

Answer This Question

Hi heatherathome, the system can be installed on the roof of your house, shed or cabana, mounted to a rack or simply placed on the ground. One System Kit (SK21) is REQUIRED for all inground pool solar installations of up to 8 solar panels (4 boxes) per installation. The SK21 contains everything you need to complete most installations, including all the necessary valves, connection and mounting hardware. Sould heat up to 10,000 galon approx. Answer This Question

Hi turknfrys1, It is lightweight, durable and easy to install. Water simply flows through the SunHeater's many tubes via your existing pool pump where it is heated by the sun and returned to your pool. The system can be installed on the roof of your house, shed or cabana, mounted to a rack, or simply placed on the ground. Install on ground, roof, or rack No fuel bills or expensive installation of equipment and connections. Please feel free to contact us again with any further questions. Since we are not qualified to give details as to the number of panels an individual pool would need or the cost, we recommend that you consult with a large retailer that deals with these kinds of home supplies instead. overstockcustomercare1 on Aug 10, 2012
