The object of the game is to get the lowest score for your round. There are numbers 1 through 12 on the board. If an 8 is rolled then the number can be shut off on the board or any numbers that add up to 8 such as a 6 and a 2 or a 5 and a 3. The round ends when a person rolls a number that cannot be taken of the board. If the person has a 11 and a 9 left then their score is 20. If that turns out to be the lowest score after everyone has taken their turn then that person is the winner.

Just like the old time game. Well constructed, quality wood. Fun for all ages
highly satisfied with service, quality & price of product. Only problem I have is this game does not come with any instructions. Had to download instructions from gaming websites. This may be a flaw of game manufacturer since other people I know ordered same game from different companies and had same problem.
First of all, I was thrilled to find overstock carried this item. My wife had been looking for one for quite awhile. The item arrived in 4 days as always. She was very happy with the quality of workmanship. The price was great & now I'm not going to have to go nuts trying to find one for her. Thanks Overstock! I'll always check you guys out first no matter what I'm looking for.

pssstttt. Really a poor repersentative of the game. If you are going to sell Shut the Box, sell a unit where you can shut the box. Also no instructions included to learn to play the game, not a great way to give a gift.
