Bought these to carry along on a canoe trip in the Everglades- didn't want to risk an expensive pair in the water- and they worked just fine. They're lightweight and compact (about the size of a 1st-generation digital camera) and they tuck nicely into their little case. They focused fully and had decent range- not as good as a pair a ranger let me borrow later in the trip (on dry land!) but for their size, they're certainly worth throwing in a bag when you're out in nature. Glad we had them more than once on our trip.
I bought these binoculars for my neighbors - ages 10 and 8 - for Christmas. They thought they were cool because they were camouflage and the size was perfect for them. The optics quality is adequate, but perfect for an introduction to using and taking care of binoculars. The box that they came in was kind of cheesy and cheap, but I did buy them for the box.
