Bright but heavy
Heavy so not as useful for backpacking, but great for car camping. Be aware it takes 20 hours to fully recharge. As a result I have bought a second one so I can trade them off. I recharge them using an adaptor I plug into the car lighter, then plug this into that. Works fine that way. You wouldn't want to do that or days on end without running the car however. Is bright. Light is directional, so if you want something that shines 360 get something else. In the tent I put it in a gear hammock and shine it towards the floor of the tent. Be nice if they had a hook in the middle of the back side to do that, but this is a good work around.

Just in case ...
We live in AL and after the April 27, 2011 tornadoes, we lost power for almost three days. We were lucky that our power came back on so quickly -- most people in North Alabama went without power for a week or longer. Anyway, we realized then how woefully unprepared we were for an emergency. I bought this lantern as part of our emergency supplies for two reasons -- it has LED lights and it's rechargeable. The instructions that came with the lantern for recharging were a little brief -- but you basically plug in the recharging unit and let it charge for several hours. You can also leave it plugged in and on "standby," and it will come on automatically if the power ever goes out. The light is clear and bright, bright enough to read a book by or light up a room.

rechargeable latern
okay people the trick with these lanterns is to fully charge them overnight. occasionally it is good to drain all their power and start over, this affects the battery memory for charging. great product, use two for only source of light in a cabin. carry on and go deep into the woods.........

The light are nice and bright!
We ordered this lantern because we live in a region of the USA that gets alot of cold and stormy weather, and sometimes loose power for a day or two and sometimes longer. So it was important that we got something that was rechargeable and bright enough to light up a room (which it does)!

IT WAS A NICE LIGHT BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BIT LARGER AND IT SHOULD HAVE HAD AN UNIVERSAL PLUG ADAPTOR FOR THE MAINS PLUS SCOKETS FOR UK ENGLAND AS WE HAD TOO ORDER ONE FROM A SHOP

Camping Lantern
