I was going to give this game to my father for Christmas, and although it is a fun game to play, I would be embarassed to give this as a gift. The quality of this item is terrible. It is cheaply made and it looks that way.

I bought this game as a Christmas present for my college age children. Very small; travel size game. Not suitable for adults; the game board is the size of an average adult's hand. I returned both games; I would be embarrassed to this as a gift........the packaging is less than to be desired as well.

I was looking for a Hanukkah gift for my son who's 46 and since he and his family love board games I started checking the web for ideas. I kept coming across lots of great reviews for the Shut the Box game, which I had never heard of. I had my daughter-in-law check it out, and she thought it would be a great game for them.A lot of reviews on the game recommended the 12 number version over the 9 number one. More challenging! I checked with my son and grandson (10 yo) and they both said the game was a lot of fun and they really enjoyed it.

I figured the whole set was going to be better than it is. The board is not as sturdy as I would like and the pieces are smaller than I expected. I really don't know how anyone can use the cribbage game except people with really small hands (it is so tiny!). The dice are small too. I think there are a total of 10-12 dominoes (also super small sized as well) so I don't really think anyone can consider that enough to actually play a game. For the price I paid I'm not happy and it's going back!

Years ago my husband and I played this game. I'm not sure what happened to it over the years, but when I saw it on Overstock I ordered it. It's made pretty well, and it has plastic pieces and it's a very good rainy day inside game.

This does not deserve to be called a "wood" board. Only the 4 outer rails are wood. The corners are plastic, which I knew before ordering, but the playing surface is just cardboard with a faux wood grain laminate veneer. Even the plastic pieces are much lighter than expected and many of them are hollow and very thin.

Video games are one of the hottest forms of entertainment on the market. Top-selling video games often make more money than the most popular Hollywood blockbusters. Like movies, they are created and marketed for audiences that range from toddlers to mature adults. To protect those audiences, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, established in 1994, rates the content of all video games so consumers can make informed decisions. The ratings are composed of two parts: age-appropriateness and content descriptors. This article answers some of the most frequently asked questions about video game ratings.
Chess, the classic thinking man's game, is one of the most popular games in the world. Chess games are played by millions of people: in clubs, online, at tournaments, in parks, and in coffee shops. Of course, one of the best places to play the game, or learn to play, is in the comfort of your own home; but should you buy a chess board or a chess table? While either choice is a great one, there are a few advantages to owning a chess table. Here are a few reasons you should have one in your home.
Rating systems used to be so simple. Everyone understands the standard film industry rating system, and each rating is carefully described before the movie begins. Video games are different. They come in individualized packages, and gaming sessions can go on for hours on end, making it difficult for a parent to determine how appropriate a game actually is. Video game ratings may vary greatly depending on region or country, so you'll want to learn and understand the rating used in your area. In the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, or ESRB, is the authority on video game ratings. These ratings will help determine the approximate suitable age levels for games, but keep in mind that all ratings are merely recommendations that you may agree or disagree with. This step-by-step guide will help you interpret the different video game ratings, so you can better shield your family from offensive or questionable content.
There are many educational toys and games that help children learn better listening skills. Children often have difficulty developing good listening skills, and by playing educational games with your children, you can bond with them and guide their learning. Many electronic learning and educational toys encourage independent learning while still focusing on listening comprehension. By using the numerous educational games and toys available focused on listening skills, children can learn while having fun. Board games: Board games require kids to listen to a set of rules. To play, they must retain the rules they just heard. Instead of letting the kid read the rules, read the rules to them. Have them repeat the rules back. The practice of repeating and using the rules they've learned helps reinforce their ability to listen and remember. Video games: Age-appropriate educational video games work similar to videos, music and other auditory games. These games can be played alone or with others. Video games can be played on most game consoles, on computers and through many websites. To complete game tasks, kids must listen to and remember instructions. Auditory games: Games such as "Simon Says" or "Bingo" require kids to listen in order to play. If they don't listen, they can't perform tasks correctly. Children like to win games, and games that focus on another player stating steps or have an audio component to state tasks and steps will encourage kids to improve their listening skills. Play these games with your child to help make the games more fun. Books: Books can be turned into games. Read a book to a child and ask questions afterward. For every correct answer, provide some type of award. If reading to a group, turn the questions into a group game. Many books focus solely on improving listening skills, such as riddle books which require kids to listen to and remember all details before they can solve the riddle. Other books include guessing games such as "20 Questions." To guess the answer, kids must remember the answers to the 20 questions. Videos and music: Many movies, shows and songs are actually full of games. These games require children to listen carefully to perform the desired task. Typically, these tasks include saying a certain phrase or doing a certain dance or exercise move. These tasks build upon each other to develop kids' ability to remember what they've heard. Most educational books also provide suggestions for other activities, and some feature sounds for a more interactive experience. Other toys: Dolls can help boost a child's self-esteem, which helps them learn better. Dolls that focus on the child's disability helps the child feel like they're not so different after all. Many dolls are electronic and focus on learning games specific to the learning disability. Wooden toys, especially those with colored, detachable parts, are used to help stimulate a child's senses and teach counting and colors.
