I really like this lantern - and I was shocked to find that if you wind it for an entire 15 minutes, it will put out HOURS of light. However, that's IF you can stand cranking the thing that long. The tiny handle is somewhat tight to crank, its not like a free spin, there is definitely resistance. Its a very bright light, and the little flashlight that comes with is a great value! Overall, I'm pleased with it and looking forward to using on an upcoming camp. Maybe I'll just pass it around to friends and let them crank....

This lantern and flashlight had a number of good reviews before I bought it, and that influenced my decision heavily. I like having a "self-sufficient" (i.e. no batteries or electrical charge to run out) light or two around the house if there happens to be a power failure. Good light output, decent workmanship and quality. Winding the hand crank burns a few extra calories too! :) I may buy another set or two as gifts to family.

Have not had to put into service on emergency basis yet, but very pleased with function trial.

After reading the previous reviews I decided to purchase this lantern. So far so good. I plan on being careful on winding it as I don't want the handle to break. Puts out a nice amount of light and really like the fact it needs no batteries/electricity.

Wow, I love this lantern. I had been looking for a windup lantern all over the internet and not having much luck. I purchased a small battery powered one at a local store but it did not give a wide circle of light plus in an emergency I wanted a battery free light source. This lantern is perfect, it gives a wide circle of light, more than adequate to walk in a completely dark environment, it is light weight and easy to wind. This is a perfect solution for camping and emergency preparedness. I do find that it helps to wrap a soft cloth around the handle if I am winding for more than a minute as the crank is hard plastic.

Bought this as a gift for our son-in-law. We played around with the flashlight and lantern a bit before we wrapped them. They provide quite a bit of light especially the lantern.
