When we started putting the bicycle together, we realized the fork (where you attach the front wheel) was bent - couldn't get the wheel in. But it was beautiful out and my son really wanted to join his brother outside, so we went to our mechanic - he put it in a vice and voila! The ball bearings in the steering column required oiling (annoying to have to remove that bolt to oil it properly). Otherwise, the bike is hefty and will take some damage from the 9 year-old. Would have preferred to not deal with the initial issues, but it'll do for the price. Let's see if it lasts until the 6 year-old outgrows his 18".
