  • great bass for the beginner

    May 9, 2013

    nrbeecher  from minneapolis, mn, Rating:5.0

My son who is 15 has never played an instrument. He wanted a bass guitar for his birthday. I didn't want to spend too much, not knowing if his committment would be there for very long. I found this item and he is thrilled. It is definitely not a stage guitar but for our purposes it is fantastic.

Cheap starter bass in every aspect. Pick ups were toneless, The frets were very rough. imo Why spend over 100.00 bucks on a bass when you'll just end up spending another 200-300 making it gig worthy? Save your money and buy something your happy with from the get go. I bought 2 (1 active-1 passive) off of e- bay and dumped them instantly after trying to play them live. I played them thru my Eden rig and still couldn't coax any tone. As I said in the beginning, save your cash and buy something better, these basses are garbage.

I had specifically asked if this was one piece or 2 as the photo showed . they assured me it was one piece. It is not easy to use and not recommended as it needs a lots of things to be put together. Took us over 45 min.

  • Great tone, but won't stay in tune....

The overall quality is alright... Don't expect much more for what this guitar costs... It's perfect size for my 7 year old.. Has pretty decent tone and I've even had fun playing it myself.. 2 serious drawbacks... 1. It's noisy.. Switching between pick-ups is noisy.. On positions 2 and 4, there is audible hissing.. Probably some minor bad wiring between pick-ups, pots and switch.. Once I open the thing up, I'll see what's wrong.. An easy fix for me, maybe not so much for others.. Second serious, serious, SERIOUS drawback is the tuning keys.... This guitar will absolutely not stay in tune what so ever.. Constantly goes out of tune.. Set it down, goes out of tune.. Do a bend, goes out of tune.. The tuning key set is very cheap and very basic.. I'm replacing them with some Fender tuning keys I picked up for $40 bucks.. If you want this thing to be playable so your kid can take it to lessons, you'll definitely want to at least replace the tuning keys.. The headstock is th...

    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Overall quality is acceptable for something in the $60-$70 price range... You'll at least want to upgrade the tuning keys as they are very poor in quality..

  • Finish was GORGEOUS, but there's a big flaw...

When the box was opened (and it was double boxed), the look/finish of this guitar was jaw dropping. However, intonation of the strings, so matter how well the guitar was tuned, was way off. On the G and B strings, sound that came from plucking strings with a pick was a loud buzz or the string "went dead" and wouldn't play (much like when you don't press hard enough on a string before picking the note. I suspect that there was some subtle distortion in the formation of the neck of the guitar that was not readibly visible to the eye. No matter how many adjustments were made, could not get the 2nd and 3rd strings to ring clear on any fret. Finish was 5 stars. Function we'd have to give 0 stars, which is disappointing for such an eye-catching guitar. For this reason, we requested refund not a replacement.
