We spent quite a bit researching a bike rack that were easy to assemble, we could install in a breeze and, overall, we felt it was going to carry our bikes safely.
The assembly took us a while and we found that some details in the design had been updated from the moment when the instructions were printed. Nothing major though. We called customer service and they were fantastic giving us a hand. So extra points for the company.
The rack is very sturdy. It is heavy as well. I imagine a small person might have some problems placing the rack in the hitch but I think every pound is worth it. In addition, the rack is foldable, perfect to store it or discretely leave it installed in the hitch when you are not carrying bikes. On top of this, I don't think it takes even 5 minutes to put it in place.
Concerning how safely the bikes are carried. They simply don't move at all. Either on highways or on bumpy off-road trails in a state park, the rack does it job. Certainly, the fact that it sports the wheel supports help a lot. Carrying different size or different kind of bikes is not a problem either. In my case, I normally take along a female road bike and a male hybrid with a quite awkward frame and everything has gone perfectly well.
In summary, I really like the rack and leaving apart the weight, which I think is justified, I would recommend it. In fact, I am considering buying another one because these things are expandable!
