Depends on your type
from Long Island,  Nov 25, 2007

I decided to write this to help potential buyers. If you are buying this gun and either you or someone you are getting it for only intends it for limited use, i.e. at most 2-3 times a month, and only then for limited time periods, say a few games here or there down at the riverbed. This gun can work to your advantage and is a good deal for the price offered. However, should you be buying this for an avid paintballer, or are intending yourself to begin playing regularly then this is definantly not a gun to get, the upgrades to get it into condition are too costly for the limited performance in most woodsball, scenario, or speedball games. This is a fine gun for someone who will take it out and dust it off every now and then, but not for someone who plays consistently. I hope you found this helpful.

Warning! Item is not NEW.
from LA, CA,  Oct 19, 2006

Please be warned that even though no where on the page does it state that it is remanufactured, Overstock sent me a remanufactured marker. The item was noticably scratched outside and when I field stripped it, the power tube (valve sleeve) was cracked. Also the instruction manual has boot prints all over it. Avoid the hassel of return/refund by not ordering this item from overstock all together.

JT Tac - 5 Recon Paintball Gun
from San Diego California,  Jul 4, 2007

The service was outstanding. However, the product had an issue with it. The Hopper connection was broke and I had to take it in to get fixed for the person I bought it for. I should not have to do this, it was a gift and I was quite embarrassed having taken it back to get it fixed, when he wanted to use it on his birthday! If there are any suggestions on how to get refunded for the item fixed, I would gladly take it.

I am a total noob to paintball. Considering the price I paid I am very pleased with my purchase. I have not field tested the marker so I can't tell you how it cycles under rapid fire. I have upgraded with a Spyder barrel and a remote coil. Bipod and a stock is also available. I was told that this marker is Spyder knock off, What this means to me is that Spyder parts like the barrel and the remote coil will fit this marker.

Don
 from charlotte,  Sep 5, 2008

This gun is overall kinda junky because the brand name is unknown and it has terrible value.. If you want a good value gun, go for a tippmann A5! It has the same guts as a tippmann X7 but its about 100$ cheaper. Also if you want to own on the paintball field upgrade to an e-grip, i have one and i love it. The a5 never gives me problems.

ok
from Farmington NM,  Jul 26, 2008

this gun isnt top of the line at all if you are looking to enter the game of paintball yes it is a great starter gun but as said before by another user its not a every day gun the parts for this gun are harder to fnd than most but it is good for starting a young kid or a first timer if you are really trying to get into the game and you know you want to do it for a while i would recommend a higher end gun such as and ion if your going for a cheaper gun or an etek or ego these are hiigher end guns that are a little more costly than most guns but for what this gun is i would get it for my kid not for myself

Amazing
from Fall City, Wahington,  Feb 19, 2008

This gun is sweet, its really strong and durably, i turned mine into a sniper, 24" barrel, scope, bipod, and a stock, (witch you cant do with most paintball guns) the paint does wear alittle in the spots you ut bipods and handles on tho, but idc about that, this gun is so accurate only reason i have a 24"barrel is for looks and to go a little farther, so i really reccomed this to to experts and starters

dont buy this
 from Vallejo,CA,  Jun 30, 2007

trust me im warning you now dont buy this gun this gun was the worst thing I ever ,I got it on the tenth day of shiping and as soon as I saw it i was very excited so a few days later I go to use it a few rounds it was shooting to fast so I had to use other peoples guns during the game when I had the time to tweak with it I got ot slow enough and had not realized that the bolt had fell in so when I got home I had my dad fix it, a few months later I got to go fire it up again (lucky me) and almost every paint ball I put in broke so my friend comes out and with a modified tippman 98 custom and its got every thing better good aim to if you tried to hit a basket ball from ten feet away with the jt tac 5 it would hit every where but the ball so if your thinking that that this would be a good gift or just for you just spend a little more money on a better gun

Got it, but
Anonymous  from South Carolina,  Jun 7, 2007

It worked for about 2 hours, 3 games then jammed. Then my son tried to adjust the air screw. It fell into the chamber and I had to field strip it to try and fix. The Screw fits into a plastic chamber guide. Since it is plastic and the screw is metal, the threads are trashed. Don't think I would purchase again.

JT Tac-5
from St. Louis, MO,  Feb 27, 2007

I was very eager to get this marker and was not disappointed. It was shipped on time, in good condition and had everything shown in the pictures. I took it out to test fire right away. At first, I had a mixed batch of paint and some of the bad balls chopped. Then I put in a hopper full of good paint and it performed well. Accurate shots, even with the stock barrel and no chops. With good paint and a longer barrel, this could be a GREAT starter marker. I play only woodsball, so the camo will be great!

Good Luck Getting a Good One
from Albuquerque, New Mexico,  Oct 29, 2006

These Tac-5's are actually remanufactured. I got mine in a UPS box, not the original Tac-5 box. There were no instructions, accessories, or even a warranty. A sheet of paper inside the box said that the product was not refundable and did not have a warranty. The barrel I received had some sticky glue-like substance on the inside, which I could not clean out. When testing the Tac-5 out, however, I found its performance to be excellent. The sticky stuff on the inside of the barrel did not affect the gun's accuracy, surprisingly. So far, I have played rec-ball with it twice and it seems like it is well worth the money ( I found the same gun to be $146.99 at paintball warehouse's website). I'm not too confident that it will hold together, but so far it has been an amazing paintball gun. I think it all depends on if you receive a good Tac-5 or a broken one.
