First off, I'm 81 years old. I have a Cardio-Glide, a stepper, and a vibrating platform, none of which I had been using much during my husband's long illness -- at least, not enough to be helpful. I'm also very heavy. One thing none of the above helped was hand and wrist strength. Since I have moderate arthritis in my hands, wrists and shoulders, I wanted to find some light to medium weights to add to my plans to improve my fitness and, hence, improve blood pressure, circulation, etc. These are absolutely perfect because not only can you change the amount of the weight from one to three pounds per "dumbbell," the strap makes up for the fact I don't have a very strong grip -- you wouldn't want to drop them on your feet! Nothing I can prove so far, but I also have a suspicion that marching in place, for instance, while swinging these should go a long way towards improving my gradually increasing loss of balance, if for no other reason than I will have to pay attention to the weight shifts.
