! I Purchased the Celestron Travel Scope 70 Telescope for travel and remote Photo shoots. With the stats reading 400 focal length I also knew it would take the place of a "Focal Reducer" for Moon and Sun shots (full view) and provide wonderful wide field vista shots as well. My expectations have been exceeded. Yes, the Scope comes with a standard Camera tripod, which wobbles. Though by adding about 5 pounds of weight,(rocks, etc.) to the tripod (sling the pack under the tripod frame hanging under the center) It stabilizes nicely. I used this Scope just yesterday to Photo Shoot the Venus Transit across the Sun on a computerized mount with Excellent results! The finder scope is touchy, though all of them are, (and upside down) unless you wish to pay $$$$$ just for a right side up finder scope. One can "add on" to this little Scope later. The Eye Pieces are of Kellners design; (Celestron favorite to "package" with Scopes, and are of Quality Craftsmanship. The Service was in fact Outstanding, with the Package at my door three days after opening. Can't go wrong with this Scope for It has many Practical uses when "there's nothing to see in the sky". Take a Road Trip and a Camera!Read More

can the Travel Scope 70 be attatched to a regular higher tripod ? It looks like the tripod pictured is a table mount ?
This telescope can be put with a different or larger aftermarket tri-pod to make it stand up or the one that comes with it is either a table top as shown or used as a ground set. The legs telescope out as well making it taller. How much we are not sure but is more than shown. Thank you for your business.
is this refractor
Hi grannyspeccial, this is a refractor telescope. Thanks for shopping with us.
Does this telescope allow you to view nebulas?
You'll be able to see the Orion Nebula with any telescope. How much detail comes through depends on magnification, light capturing ability, and optical quality.

Telescopes Buying Guide
Invented by accident in 1608 by an eyeglass maker in Holland, telescopes have allowed astronomers to explore the far reaches of the universe. While professional astronomers use massive optics housed in special observatories to conduct their research, amateur astronomers can have great fun and enjoy the beauty of outer space and the Earth using much smaller and far less expensive equipment. Here is some information to help you understand the basic technologies so you can choose the telescope that will work best for you.
Telescopes - Myths and Facts
Amateur astronomy equipment ranges from telescopes that will barely fit in the back of a truck and expensive computerized navigation systems to inexpensive binoculars and basic star maps, with everything in between. If you're a beginning hobby astronomer, where should you start? Are refracting telescopes best, or are reflecting telescopes? Should you buy the most expensive telescope you can or start small? You can ask hundreds of different questions about buying a first telescope, but a good way to begin your research is to clear up a few common myths about telescopes.
Spotting Scope Fact Sheet
Spotting scopes, sometimes referred to as monoculars, are small, telescope-like optics that began as tools used by the military. Today, they are widely used in the consumer market for hunting, bird watching, viewing ships, scoring shooting range targets and photography. Spotting scopes can mount on a common camera tripod and are quite suitable for daytime use. They provide more magnification than binoculars and are more portable than most telescopes.
Best Binoculars for Stargazing
