I just got back from 2 weeks of car-camping in the upper mid-west. The tent performed flawlessly. I would not recommend this tent to a back-packer, it is WAY too heavy for that (about 11 lbs). But in the car-camping and canoeing arena it performs well. Floor is a very thick nylon, poles are heavy duty aluminum. pegs are adequate for sheltered areas. In high winds (25+ mph) the tent really held up, but I had nailed the fly down with 12" steel spikes. The tent is spacious for 1-2 people, 3 would be a crowd. The tent's footprint is pretty small, but the rain-fly, with two big vestibules, has a surprisingly large footprint. Final word, this is a nice sturdy tent that I would not want to carry more than a few feet. (due to its weight)

We took this tent camping with us last weekend. It is very roomy and looks nice. It inst very hard to put together either. We will be purchasing new stakes since the ones it came with are pretty cheap and do not have pointed ends so they are difficult to put into the hard ground. Overall it is a nice tent and we are excited to use it again.

We haven't really used it yet but we put it together and it fits the 2 of us and seems well made.

took this tent on a trip to the Black Hills National Forest. I was looking for something small and lightweight to carry on my hiking pack, but big enough to sleep and store my gear in. This did a good job an only took about 15 mins to set up. Two sides of the tent aren't covered, only mesh screening, so I recommend attaching the rain cover to the top. this will block more sun and cover the sides all but about two inches. worked out well for me since it was @ 82 degrees during the day and @40 at night. i am 6'3" and i was able to stretch out inside diagonally since i was the only one inside. if you have more people and are tall, you may want to go up a size. it worked well for me though, no problems. i would recommend this to others.

We bought this tent to go on a camping trip with friends and it worked perfectly. We particularly liked the vented windows in the front and back, which helped with airflow. It can get kind of stuffy inside a tent, especially in Florida, if you don't have ventilation. We prefer renting an RV to tenting because it's hard to dress inside a tent but that's only because we've become spoiled :-)

Purchased for our survival / "bug out" gear and very pleased with the size and quality. Very roomy for two adults. No complaints.

a lightweight 2 person tent with 2 vestibules for 1/3 the price of the competetion. sure it may not last as long as a $200.00 tent but for casual camping where your packing in for a long hike this is a winner! 3 season only

We had several of the poles completely splinter after only one use. The tent itself is nice and a good size though.

This tent was an oustanding buy for the price. I was shocked, very nice. My fault though if it was smaller I would have kept it, it was for a a couple of little kids to play around with it but it was a large 2 person tent. It someone needed that this is the one I would buy. Really nice.

The picture is Deceiving it is made to look like your getting the tent but you are only getting the rainfly . if you want to sell a rainfly just put the picture of the rainfly not the tent.

I bought this tent because I often camp alone and read a few reviews stating it could be set up by one person. I had no problems at all setting it up. It was quick and easy. Enough space for two large dogs and the ridiculous amount of stuff I bring camping (home away from home). We had a heavy dew during the nights but the tent stayed dry and it was warm inside with the door and windows zipped closed. I'm guessing the temperature dropped to 40. I would suggest a ground cover under the tent to protect the floor. Some sharp rocks were stressing the floor even with the old tent floor I used as a ground cover.

We camped at a little over 5000 ft. This tent only shields you from the wind, and some light rain. We had a blast, but it was just my son and I in the tent. I don't see how 6 adults could move around comfortably, if only sleeping than this tent works great. It was very, very easy to set up, took us about 5 minutes at night. On our second night the wind picked up at about 55 mph. We where not able to sleep well because of the howling wind The metal stakes the tent comes with were not up to that wind speed and the side of the tent facing the wind collapsed on us in the middle of the night, but we were still shielded from the wind, so that's a plus. I highly recommend you buy better stakes.

This review is based only on a "trial run" setup of the tent, but so far, we are very pleased. Everything seems sturdy and well made. It is a heck of a large, airy tent. Last year, we camped with some friends, who slept in our old tent while we slept in our popup. The old tent was a dome tent, and once the camping bed was set up, our claustrophobic friend could barely stand to be inside it. That will NOT be a problem with this tent. Plenty of headroom, and lots of clearance to move around, even with a queen size camp bed inside. Doors on two sides, and great big windows on the other two. Looks as if it will hold up well. Excellent product for the price. Before buying, I studied reviews on every site where I could find this tent, and reviewers praised it for holding up well to wind and weather, so I expect we will get plenty of use out of it.

I bought this tent because the features it provided seemed to be a great value for the price that it was being offered at. This Tent does not disappoint. All the tents I found with the same features seemed to be priced much higher. The Meramac 5 zf fg is the first tent I have ever bought by myself as the family tent my father bought 18 years ago finally disintegrated in the beach winds of the Texas coast. My wife had never been camping before and this Meramac 5 ZF FG was to be the first one she had ever been in. We have used this tent several times (Texas state parks in November, April, and March) and have enjoyed it very much. My wife loves the fact that it has two doors and that she can stand up inside. The second trip we took it on it rained for a full day and we were the only ones in the campsite that stayed dry. We've only had 2 people and a queen size mattress inside and needless to say it fits us with room to spare. It seems like this tent has a heavy duty everything, from the tub floor to the zippers. The included pieces of material are nice in case I have to make repairs one day but based on the build quality I'm sure that wont be for a very long time. I'm very happy with my purchase and I would buy it again. This tent was a very good introduction to the Alps Mountaineering brand and I plan to continue buying there products.

We purchased the Promontory XD after quite a bit of research. I look for quality, a good warranty (this tent has a lifetime warranty) and if possible, great customer service. PahaQue measures up in all cases. When researching, I checked out several sites, read e-pinions, talked to people (boy scout trainers at a camping training I attended note: this is definitely a family camping tent, not a tent for backpacking with the scouts) and then called manufacturers to ask them to compare their product to this one. When I called Paha Que I was very pleased with their customer service down-to-earth, completely comfortable with my comparative questions about quality and very helpful with what product would best suit our family. They were able to give me specifics about the qualities and features of their tents so that I could make comparisons with other well-known companies and know that I was purchasing the better quality tent. My non-camping-oriented sister and I put the tent up together in less than 15 minutes (probably closer to 10 minutes) including the rain fly and staking it out. I suspect it would take even less time now. Paha Que recommends two people to put it up, and I would agree. Everything about the tent is well thought out and makes sense, but the size of the tent, and therefore the poles, is unwieldy with one only person putting it up. I watched the video of putting the tent up on PahaQues home website. It really is that easy. As far as the parts to the tent there are very few. They have kept this very simple! There are two long poles that go across the top and four side poles that hook the top poles into the grommet on the base of the tent. Other than two more poles to hold up the optional rain fly-canopy, that is it! The poles are lightweight aluminum and corded. There is no figuring out what goes where or with what part of the reason it takes so little time to erect. Bonus, the tent actually fits back into the bag with out folding gymnastics to try to make it fit. It did rain while we were camping, albeit a gentle rain. No moisture inside. We liked the HUGE window-doors for ventilation. There are three doors so that if you install the room separator the occupants have their own doors. We kept it as one room, however, and were able to fit two queen-size air mattresses inside and a dog bed (we thought it would keep her in one spot and her toe nails out of the floor). We could probably fit another single air mattress inside. As far as gear, we travel with one duffel for each of the 5 family members and then a couple of others for extra stuff. I used the back of the mini-van as a duffel closet but there is some room for duffels in the tent I just did not want the clutter in the tent. Without the air mattresses there is loads of room for gear. All in all, we are very satisfied.

This is a great idea for those times that I camp without my family. The quality of the tent is good. It has plenty of room inside for me and a small bag. I like being up off the ground as well. I did have to call due to a damaged carry bag ( the stitching around the zipper wasn't complete leaving an 8 in hole). Overstock was great and took care of replacing the part without any hassles. I would recommend this tent hands down.

Choosing a sleeping bag is a highly individual process which should be based on several important factors -- including features, style, material and versatility. Before you begin shopping for a sleeping bag, know exactly what you will need it for. Will you be using it for year-round camping and hiking or only camping and outdoor activities in spring or summer? Will you be sleeping in your vehicle, in a tent or under the stars? What types of materials do you prefer? Once that you have determined the desired traits you would like in a sleeping bag, you can begin shopping in earnest. Here are the steps you'll need to take as you narrow your search.
If you enjoy camping, chances are so does your dog. With the right dog supplies and a sense of adventure, camping with your dog can be fun and easy. He'll enjoy the fresh air and great outdoors as much as you, if not more. Pack up the car with plenty of pet supplies and get ready for excited tail wagging as you camp, hike, and fish. He may even join in a campfire song or two with you.
A good sleeping bag is the most valuable piece of camping gear you can own. Sleeping bags are designed to protect you from feeling cold, yet the purpose of a sleeping bag isn't really to warm you; it's to help maintain your inner body temperature. There are many styles and varieties of sleeping bags available for camping and hiking, making it seem daunting to find the right one. Learning how to buy a sleeping bag isn't as difficult as it can seem, however. This sleeping bag buying guide is designed to help you find the sleeping bags that will best suit your needs, whether you're taking a long backpacking trip or simply pitching a tent in the back yard.
A good sleeping bag can make all the difference when you're sleeping outdoors. Sleeping bags keep you warm at night and protect you from the elements, whether you're camping with or without a tent. You'll want to treat your sleeping bag as well as it does you. Proper sleeping bag care will help your sleeping bags perform well and last longer. Here are some general care tips to prolong the life of your sleeping bags.
An inflatable mattress is indispensible as extra bedroom furniture when you have houseguests or as a comfortable resting place when you're enjoying the great outdoors (from the safety of a tent). To make your air bed even more appealing, make sure you treat it like a regular bed; an inflatable mattress will benefit from luxurious sheets as much as any other mattress. Choose the right sheets for your bedroom furniture and treat your guests to an inflatable mattress experience they'll never forget.
If you dislike sleeping on the cold, hard ground, a sleeping pad underneath your sleeping bag can really save you a night of discomfort. A sleeping pad is also essential for keeping your sleeping bag protected when you're roughing it. When you're packing up your sleeping bag, tent and other camping gear, don't forget a sleeping pad to keep you comfortable in the great outdoors. There are three basic types of sleeping pads available for use with sleeping bags: air mattresses,, foam pads and self-inflating pads. The type of pad you'll need depends on what kind of camping you'll be doing and how much padding you prefer.
Have you ever been told to "take a hike?" Well, you no longer have to tie your gear to the end of a stick and carry it over your shoulder. Instead, you can choose the backpack that is best for the type of hike you want to take.
