I ordered this for my 5 turning 6 year-old. This is a great first metal detector. It is sturdy, not cheap. The controls are easy to use and understand. Being able to lengthen and shorten it will make it useful for more years. I was happy with this purchase before even giving it to my son. He was thrilled - to say the least. We are having a great time hiding money and having him find it. We have also taken it to the beach and had a great time looking for treasures. It was a great purchase for us!

I bought this for my 6 year old son for easter instead of getting him a basket of junk. He loves it! It does work very good and has different settings to eliminate certain metals. So far we have only found aluminum and wire but we have tried hiding gold rings and it picks those up too. The shaft of it adjusts so even I can comfortably use it. I feel this is a very good product and worth the money.

We purchased the Metal Detector for our 10 yr.old Grandson. Thinking it would get him outside for fresh air etc. We had no idea it would keep him outside every spare moment he has. I think he has located every water pipe on all of his realitive's properties. You can see little holes everywhere. However he does repair after digging. I would say YES buy one for yourself and the children, treasure hunting brings a family together. What a great device. Am so happy we thought of this. The one (and only) place we checked was overstock, and there it was (several to select from).
