  • This is my 2nd One

Just purchased my second Black Pine Oversized +20 degree bag. I used my first one on a recent camping trip and the bag kept me nice and warm. Our tent got down to +41 degrees inside. My girlfriend froze in her bag and we ended up having to borrow a second bag for the rest of the trip. She slept in 2 bags plus a flannel liner and was finally comfortable. I slept in my Black Pine bag with flannel liner and was never cold. This purchase is a gift for her. The bag is extremely well-made and "cush-y." I much prefer the roominess of this bag, compared to the mummy-style bags. Also, this one is long enough to zip to over my head (I'm 5'9'') so even the top of my head was warm. I like that it is not lined with flannel on the inside, because that gets dirty and causes you to have to launder the bag, which is a pain. Instead I just bought a separate flannel liner made by Coleman for $10 on sale. A lot easier to just wach the liner at the end of a trip.

  • Poor Design - Poor Quality

I purchase two different sleeping bags by Black Pine. The first was a -20 oversized rectangle bag and the other was a +20 oversized rectangle bag. I purchase them from seperate online stores. The first from and the second from about 2-weeks between purchases. Both oversized bags seem much smaller than the oversized bag they were replacing. As a single guy I use the bags mainly as a cover for my bed. The -20 bag during the winter and the +20 bag for the summer. The -20 bag is toasty warm--almost too hot for indoor use, but the +20 bag is not warm enough even in the house during the winter months. (ie bedroom temps between 50-60 at night). I found that both sleeping bags came with the exact same design and manufacturer defects. Both bags are extremely electo-statically charged/static producers. They will shock you constantly (but it's kind of cool to pull the bag over your head and watch how much light is produced by the static discharge in a pitch black environment. The other downside to this, however, it that everything sticks to the bags like glue. dirt, dust, lint, pet hair, you name it--everything sticks to the bags. I couldn't imagine using these outsde on the ground as I'm finding it impossible to keep them clean inside on a bed! The other flaw both bags have deal with sew quality. Both have multiple threads hanging from many of the seams and both have interior zippered pockets where the pull cord zips right off the end of the zipper where it's not supposed to. It appears that one side of the zipper on each sleeping bag was not sewn properly to prevent the zipper from coming apart, nor is there a zip stop to prevent this even if the seam did come apart. I'm guessing that both of the bags inter-liners came off the same assembly line even though they were used for different cold-rated bags as the liners for both bags look exactly the same (so the flaw must stem from a poor quality control program at the manufacturing facility--according to the tags, somewhere in China.

    • How accurate was the sizing? My previous oversized sleeping bag was much larger
    • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Purchase two different sleeping bags from the same manufacturer: +20 and -20 degree oversized sleeping bags. Both had exactly the same poor quality defects
    • Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? Both had inner zippered pockets defects where the zipper pull zipped right off the end of the zipper because there was no zipper stop and the end of both sleeping bag pockets where miss sewn.
  • sleeping bag

I'll await a return on the product. I wasn't able to use it because it wasn't sewn correctly and stuffing was coming out.

    • Did the product fit true to size? The product fit.
    • How is the quality of the product? Was not sewn correctly and the fiber fill stuffing was coming out.
    • Was the product free of any manufacturer defects? No, see above

  • Nice Bag!

Very nice looking and comfortable. Little hard to get back into the sack. However the bag makes up for it. I would recommend this bag to anyone looking for a +20 A inexpensive fleece liner is good for colder nights and makes for easy cleaning. .
