This tent is so simple that a monkey can put it together. I usually buy a two man tent for the extra space and comfort even though I'm a solo backpacker, thats why I considered this tent. There is no way two people can sleep in this tent comfortably. So if your looking to sleep two people, don't even bother looking at this tent. If your a solo sleeper and you like the xtra space, then consider it. So far the tent has held up on several trips, and it insulates and protects pretty well. I have yet to test it in extreme weather condition such as high winds or extreme rain. But it looks it as if it can hold up against windy situation. As for wet condition...I have yet to see.
I am a huge fan of ALPS and will continue to enjoy this lightweight tent as a comfortable solo shelter for fair weather, warm or muggy settings. I would not plan on two people, even if they are children, using this. The fly along the head and foot area should be longer or stake-able to create more coverage. I have attached some "tarp clips" in these areas to pull the fly edge away from the bottom of the tent and this has solved the issue. If you do not pull this fly away from the bottom the rain will drip directly into the tent where the tent body screen meets the bathtub style floor. Vestibule is roomy and again the ventilation is superb due to the entire tent wall being screen. My wife will not sleep in this tent again after I sent her and our daughter off on a Venturing trip without me and they got soaked in an all night downpour. Not sure if any tent would have survived what they reported as a monsoon. ALPS stands behind all their products and a better option for two people would be the Zephyr 3. Personally, I love the screen wall for ventilation and would consider using a separate Sil-Nylon tarp strung up over this tent to ensure a waterproof set up
I've had this tent almost a year now. I'm a hammock camper, but on my 400 mile kayak trip up the coast of texas there was nowhere to hang a hammock, so I got this tent from overstock.com . Things l liked about the tent, full mesh tent with separate rainfly. Easy to set up, zippers on both sides. Free standing. Good price. It's pretty much the perfect tent but ...... The rainfly will flutter in the wind. None of the sides are cat cut. I had one pole break at the junction but fixed it with a tube taped into place. the zippers will freeze up and corrode if you don't take care of them. with my exped 9 dlx dam mat only one person can fit in this tent. It makes a good solo tent. if you're tall you might not like this tent as it's a kinda short tent. great for me, I'm 5'3" ... I added my own attached diy plastic footprint and added a few cords the hang clothes from to help make camping a bit easier. everything fits back into the original stuff bag, but I don't use it like that. I keep everything separate as it's easier to stuff into the kayak. Sometimes I'd not set up the rainfly at all. Would I get this tent again? Maybe not. the rainfly is too noisy. It was a good price and for the weekend camper it would be ok, but if you're doing an expedition then the rain fly is a pain. The rain fly also has to be staked out, another pain . I'll continue to use it until it wears out, or I find a great deal on the perfect 2 person tent, but since i'm a hammock camper mostly ....
My first thoughts about this tent it is an amazing shelter! I have been using this tent everynight camping here in the local woods in Akron Ohio. This little tent holds up to the WORST weather nature can throw at it. Even winter storms with high winds and lots of snowfall. The poles this tent uses are very sturdy. They take all the snowloading with no issues whatsoever. The tent keeps me dry and sheltered from the worst weather. Plenty of guy-out lines to stablize the tent during high winds. I am very amazed this tent can hold up to such extremes. The amazing part is no doubt this tent was not designed for these extreme winter conditions! I have the "2-person" version of this tent. I would say more like 1.5 person in actuality. Enough interior space for one adult with gear. Plus two fairly large stake-out vestibules. Great little tent. Nice colours too. Sage green with rust trim.
I tend to camp more in the spring and summer, and with it's mostly mesh design this tent is ideal. It's a tight 2 person tent, but with two doors and vestibules it's okay. Better for just me and my dog, though. Extremely easy to put up, very light, and pack size is perfect. I lash it to the bottom of my pack, and the small packed width is perfect for that. I especially like the non-garish coloring, as well.
I bought this tent to carry on my motorcycle for adventure riding . It packs easily, is easy to set up, and has kept me dry for several 4-5 day trips each with a night or two of rain. The quality of this tent easily equals or exceed that of the big name tents that some of my other riding companions use. It is light and compact enough to use for backpacking as well.
Just had my first night out in this tent. Works just like it should. Tent is lightweight, easy to set up, and basically waterproof. My only issue is that the guylines that come with it are too short to be looped like they should be.
I have not taken this tent backpacking yet and wont for the next few months, but I did set it up and test it out. The material and poles were high quality and were very light. The setup was next to nothing and took about 2 minutes. The size inside is definitely enough for 2 people unless you are morbidly obese. Colors are very attractive. A very nice tent for summer if you are wanting to set up without the vestibules and gaze at the starry night. I love the fact that you can enter and exit the tent on either side so you don't bother the one next to you. Can't think of anything really that would be a negative. I have not tried the tent in rainy or windy weather so I do not know how it will hold up. It looks as though the top of the tent may be a problem if it were to snow or rain maybe because it is flat. It looks to me that rain or snow may gather causing the tent to sag down or leak, but this has yet to be determined. Great tent and would recommend definitely in regards to quality, set-up, and design.
