This is part one of my review...prior to actually using the product camping. The product information on Overstock.com was substantially incorrect. I had never used Overstock.com before and wanted a lot of reassurances and I got them. I had to work with both Alps and Overstock to get there but I was finally reassured by watching Alps and Overstock.com work well together and with me. I received the tent earlier than promised and opened it up immediately to see if I got what was promised...yes! I researched tents very extensively before choosing this one. For a family of 4 going car camping this tent is the right size, weight, offers the heaviest floor material, a strong zipper and it was easy to set up, (with 2 people due to its size) as promised and Ii was able to fold it up and fit in compactly back in it s carry bag. There are very few tents on the market that match or beat this combination of specs and none at anything close to this price. The next best option was the *** with a slightly lighter weight (150 denier) nylon vs (210 denier) polyester (better material) floor but with a somewhat thicker (2000mm vs 1500mm) rain protection coating and aluminum (better) vs fiberglass poles for over $400.00. I also bought the Alps floor protector since no tent floors are all that thick and zipper oil for my tent, sleeping bag, etc zippers to help them last a long time. The next step will be this summer to test it at campgrounds and in the wind/rain. So far, so good!
Just finished camping with the scouts this weekend in Alabama - we had over 7" of rain in two days and ours was one of only 3 tents that stayed dry. The tent was easy to assemble (even in the dark & rain) and we couldn't have been happier. It's definitely not meant to be a backpacking tent but we were able to keep all our gear inside and still have plenty of room for two. I'm very pleased!
This tent is an excellent family tent. Easy to put up and very well made. The floor is durable and the general construction of the tent is very good. A rain test with the sprinkler in the backyard found no leaks. This is not a backpacking tent. It is on the heavy side so I wouldn't want to be carrying it through the bush. The tent was sent in excellent condition and arrived very fast from Overstock. (ordered on 07/01 and delivered on 07/03 - via standard shipping)
Took this tent to the keys at the beginning of the rainy season. The tent leaked on two sides and wasn't happy with the fact that the floor of the tent is made out of nylon and could tear very easily - many tents, special in Florida need a tarp like floor to avoid tears. Set up was easy but I didn't like how the poles couldn't be place in a nylon peg that would better hold the tent. I would also recommend buying more sturdier stakes and didn't like how the poles were thread thru fabric at the top of the tent were the poles meet. Just ok. - not sure if I would recommend this to a friend.
