I must say I was a little disappointed upon the arrival of my first online order. I did notice a difference in the weight of these 14 gram chips as opposed to the 11 gram ones used previously. The texture is really smooth allowing for the chips to slide. almost too smooth causing them to lean when stacked up. The darker colored chips were fine and were painted very well. The problem is with the white colored chips. The dark paint applied to them somehow was smudged causing the set to look less than brand new. I thought, at first, maybe just a few minor imperfections but upon further review of the set I did notci quite a bit that were smudged the same way. Although, it doesn't affect the playability of the chips it was a disappointment when buying what I expected to be a new set.
There are many different opinions on chip weight. I've played or owned all kinds, from the cheap dime store plastic chips to casino quality custom made clay chips. I've never used 14g chips before, and quite frankly, wasn't expecting much for the price I paid. First, the quality. They are solid and have a good feel to them. They are obviously high speed / mass produced chips because the silk screening has random flaws: the image may be offset, or the painted image may be incomplete, or the paint may look slopply applied. This is a very minor issue for me due to the fact that the marking are small and unnoticable during casual play. Now, if I paid the price Overstock says is the retail price for these chips, then I would expect higher visual quality. As for the play, everybody has been impressed with these chips. The weight does make a difference - when you throw your chip in, they quicky lay flat with a pleasing thud/clink, unlike lighter chips I've used which seem to be more inclined to cover some distance first rolling on its side. Another thing my poker buddies noticed is when you pull in a big pot, the extra effort to move the heaver pile seems to make winning feel more substantial and satisfying. Bottom line: for the price, these are a great purchase for your poker nights.
I wanted something that was heavier than the cheap plastic chips. These were a good value and heavy. After I bought a set and received it, I was so impressed, that I bought a 2nd set for a backup. You won't be disappointed!
Very pleased with the weight of the chips, the quality of the finish, and the correctness of the description of the item and the actual item received. I saw reviews that the case wasn't sturdy - it looks fine to me, especially considering the weight of these heavy chips, but time will tell. This was a gift, and the recipient was very happy with it. This was a very good Overstock experience. It was delivered quickly, packed very well, and came as described.
For the money you cannot go wrong. The chips are nice and heavy and the case is well made. A great gift for Groomsman!
I was pleased to get these poker chips but was surprised that they are not the same design as the chips that are pictured. These chips have an Ace & King cards around the rim of the chip and not the A, K, J, Q as pictured. The red chip is also black and red and not yellow. There are also imperfections on the white chips like smudges. The case is sturdy and well made as long as you are not throwing it around. I am okay with the mix up because the chips are 14grams tri color just a different design. The description does say Ace & King just not the right picture of the chips you're going to get. I actually prefer the design I received than the design that is pictured. The blue and orange chips are the best looking. I'm going to be taking my friends money this weekend with these chips!
The chips are great! First of all, the chips fit my needs. I'm not running Vegas style tournaments from my house; just a regular card night every few weeks. So for that, you can't beat the price with these chips. My buddy bought a set of chips a couple of weeks ago and paid well over $200...and these chips are much better. The heavier chips do make a difference; they have a better feel to them. As for the colors, I have no problem with them; I like the fact they are different. The biggest negative is the case. The case I got is bent, and doesn't close all the way. Also, the chips don't fit properly; there is a lot of extra space in each row, so the chips are in there very loosely. I had to put some of my old chips in there to make it a little tighter. This isn't that big of an issue because I can get a better case at a later date.
As much as I liked how the chips looked when I saw them on Overstock, I can't say enough about how nice they look when they are stacked in front of you. It was a great moment when I first opened the box and saw the chips for the first time. Although I can't imagine why anyone would ever pay $499 for them, I also can't imagine why anyone wouldn't pay the Overstock price. I've had a lot of fun playing poker with friends over the years. These chips actually make it more fun --- it's as if the chips improve/enhance the poker ambiance. It's hard to put into words, but I'm not so sure I'm going to be willing to play with lesser quality chips if I have the option of using mine instead. I haven't noticed any chip/paint flaws. Their weight really complements their appearance --- makes you feel like like you're playing with expensive chips. They also have a very nice clinking sound --- I can't say they feel or sound like casino chips, but they sound much better than cheaper clay composite chips. As for the carrying case, I think the handle will be sturdy enough assuming you don't carry it by the handle for long periods of time --- my judgment might be a little biased given all the negative comments I read about the handle. My only disappointment is that the blue/orange chips are ugly --- they just don't belong with the other chips. Note, the red chips have black with them --- NOT orange as depicted on Overstock. My only complaint is that the chips don't fill up the casino case ---of couse, this really doesn't matter much. I literally spent hours looking at the chips on Overstock trying to figure out which to buy. I didn't imagine I'd be as happy with these chips as I was when I first saw them and as I will be everytime I play with them. Unless you have to have clay chips, these clay composite chips are all that you will need.
The chips are so nice. There is an incredible difference between these heavy weight chips and those of lesser quality. Worth every penny. Friends noticed weight immediately. They will think you stole them from Vegas. Heavy duty case to carry them. Lots of wows. Awesome deal.
these poker chips are great. my man couldn't stop raving about how wonderful these were. the chips weigh differently depending on the value of the chips. very well made.....good buy
I bought this set for my husband and he fell in love with the chips. He said they make the perfect "clink". The only thing I wasn't happy with was the case. I don't know how long it'll last as parts are plastic and the handle doesn't seem very strong. But I'm still very happy with the set, even if I have to replace the case in a year.
I loved the chips. The chip set is great. They have a very nice feel to them and the quality is great. I love the way it sounds when you clash the chips together. The one thing i was really disappointed in was that the case was poorly made. I could barely lift the case w/the chips in it without being afraid that the case was going to break. The inside lining was already falling apart and looked horrible. I now have to buy a new case. So if you buy this set I'd suggest getting another case to go with it.
