If U can program an alarm clock U can program THIS
I've had this feeder for years now and it's been the best thing for my cats. The cats are familiar with the sound of the food dropping and have gotten comfortable with the 3-meal schedule with relative ease. Contrary to previous reviews, it is *not* difficult to program and I fold the directions up and tape it to the bottom of the machine so JUST in case I forget how to program it, they're right there for me. You only need to program it once per battery change (I've changed the batteries about once every 18 months and it is used 24/7) and programming it takes *maybe* 2 minutes. It's very similar to changing the time on an alarm clock... push one button for menu, another to select. The large capacity is great for dogs OR people with multiple cats and the food reservoir keeps the food fresh, which is doubly awesome. There is a low-battery indicator so you know when it's time to change the batteries and it gives you a solid 2 weeks to get new batteries in my experience. This is a fantastic food dispenser for a procrastinator like me ;-) This was the best pet food-related purchase I've had in years AND has lasted years and is still going strong. It's been so great I even recommended it to my own vet, who took the recommendation and loves her machine for her own cats equally as much; so much so that she's been passing on my recommendation to other pet owners since her own acquisition! If you can program an alarm clock, you can program the LeBistro!

Cat LOVES it
The feeder arrived in a white plastic, not black. When putting it together,I spilled quite a bit of food until I realized that it doesn't lock into place very firmly, and the lid has to have the small arrows lined up in order to remove it.Our cat is overweight, having spent six years in one room with 50 cats at the rescue house where we adopted him. He was 18 pounds, and he probably should be 12 pounds. He's currently 14 pounds and losing, much to his dismay. I had been feeding him at dawn and dusk, so that he would come home and be inside by sunrise and sunset, when the coyotes are busy hunting for food. He's very food-motivated, so he never misses a mealtime.We've only had the feeder a few days, and he's already used to it. One thing to be careful of: The hopper is clear, and since cats are visual animals, our cat ate the quarter cup portion, looked at all that food still in the bin, and immediately started putting his paw up into the opening, successfully getting more food to fall into the bowl. Uh Oh! So, I turned the bowl towards the wall, and that made the angle too difficult for him to get more food. Then he started turning the machine towards himself, and I thought I might have to tape the machine in place. I kept turning the bowl towards the wall, though, and he lost interest in trying to get the food out of the opening (for now). I do hope he's not going to try again to manipulate the machine. He's pretty smart, and he's pretty hungry, but so far (two days), so good. I would recommend this to other pet owners who either want to limit the food the animal gets or travels a lot. We plan to leave him at home alone on our next short trip, and it seems this will work well. Be careful when handling the machine, as the hopper is flimsy and not attachéd too firmly to the base.

Less worry with petmate lebristro
I work crazy hours some weeks and would worry big time knowing it was dinner time for my pup and wouldn't be home for 3-6 more hours. A hungry pup can be a mischief pup if not feed. With this product it gave me peace of mind knowing she was getting her needs met by having acces to out side and most important eating. I no longer came home to a floor covered in trash because someone was hungry. Now when she hears the food drop she runs over to eat. I have even been able to divide the 2 meals in 3 so she is not starving before dinner time comes. This thing has really made my life easier. No more over eating or under eating she maintains good weight no matter what is going on.

This is one of the best inventions ever. I love this feeder. I got the 10- lb capacity for my one cat who is mostly outside. Really comes in handy when Im away. I know other neighborhood cats cant gobble up food and ants dont collect on left over food. Perfect portion size and set times also holds enough food to feed 1 cat over long period of time. Overall very satisfied with this product.

It works best with small chunks of dog food
This product worked great for my outside dog when we were gone for a weekend. I checked the amount of food dispensed with each serving and it was very accurate. This kept my dog on her regular schedule even while we were away. I purchased another feeder for my inside dog only it was the 5-pound portion control feeder instead of the 10-pound one. This dog's food was a little larger pieces than the other dog's food and when I set it to dispense 1/2 a cup the amount dispensed was only 1/4 cup. He thought he was starving when we got home the next day. I should have checked the accuracy of the amount dispensed before we were going to be away.

Product does not work
Very complicated to program. I programmed it to dispense 3 meals. It failed all 3 times.
