Is this the item w/ an AC adapter port on the back? In about January of 2014, Petmate "updated" the item and it no longer has an AC adapter option on the back of the unit. Instead, it ONLY works off 3 D batteries. Is there any way to confirm? Thanks. If you know when you guys got stock on this, that would probably help.

This product comes packed well: lots of padding and inserts to prevent any damage in shipping. Putting together the unit was very easy to do and the instructions were easy to follow. I set it up to do an initial test run as this isn't the kind of thing you want to leave home and rely on to feed your pet in your absence without first ensuring that it does indeed work. Once I had completed the initial programming process, I set it to feed five minutes later. When I came back, it had reset to the initial set up mode. I tried to go through the process again but it kept going back to that initial set up mode. I checked on the batteries to make sure they were securely in the unit--even taking them out and replacing them just to make sure. Again, the unit kept defaulting back to that initial set up mode. I talked to one of Overstock.com's Customer Service Representatives and she confirmed that the unit was broken and I would need to return it. We had purchased this unit and even paid extra for express shipping because we needed it for a trip shortly thereafter. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and had to make other arrangements.Read More
This is a good portion control feeder that we use to feed our family cat. The product works as described. I haven't had this product long enough to give it an excellent rating.Read More
Purchased this item before going away for a 2 week vacation. Had my husband set it up once it arrived. He didn't even read the instructions and already had it programmed to dispense food twice a day for my 3 cats. We did have to change the food setting once because too much was dispensing. Once it was reset, just the right amount dropped. We have it set for 6 am and 5 pm. We have been using it for just a little over one month and no issues at all. I love this and cant't believe I never got one sooner.Read More
I had the previous version for around 4 years, but the motor started acting up a month ago. So I purchased the new model. Improvements: Shape of Food Hopper- Food will not build up on the edges of the storage hopper, if there is still food in the storage hopper, your pet is being fed. A/C adapter (extra)- Although I will still put in fresh batteries before a trip, I can now plug it in, if I buy the adapter (sold separately) and not have to replace batteries so often. Programming- It is still a bit confusing, but much better then the last version, just read the directions and you will be fine. Larger Hopper Option- Holds more food, which I like Disadvantages: Removable bowl can come loose, and if it does the food will go on the floor (my cats won't eat off of the floor). Feeder to Bowl Design- There is a overhand on the larger feeder unit over the back of the bowl, the food feeds to the back of the bowl, so there is always some food at the back of the bowl that my cats down want to eat, because they don't want to stick their head in there. Hopper Material- The clear plastic hopper is made from a thin plastic. Although it is sturdy enough to hold all of the food, I can imagine that a rambunctious puppy could chew threw it in a few minutes. Overall Opinion: Works great, they made some improvements, no real problems. Assuming a get a few years of life out of this one (I got 4 on my last) I will be satisfied. Mate taking weekend trips easy, and occasional week long trips possible. Plus, it can feed my cats at 5:00am so they aren't meowing their heads off when I get up at 5:30am. So now I know if my cats are meowing loudly it isn't food related, but something else.Read More
Worked properly the first time. Jammed the second and third times. Poor dog only got a portion of his meal. Who knows how much actually served before jamming. Kibble is small, so not sure how it kept jamming the feeder. I love my dog too much to not know whether he is getting fed a full meal or not. Mailed back. Wish it worked!Read More
I've had this feeder for years now and it's been the best thing for my cats. The cats are familiar with the sound of the food dropping and have gotten comfortable with the 3-meal schedule with relative ease. Contrary to previous reviews, it is *not* difficult to program and I fold the directions up and tape it to the bottom of the machine so JUST in case I forget how to program it, they're right there for me. You only need to program it once per battery change (I've changed the batteries about once every 18 months and it is used 24/7) and programming it takes *maybe* 2 minutes. It's very similar to changing the time on an alarm clock... push one button for menu, another to select. The large capacity is great for dogs OR people with multiple cats and the food reservoir keeps the food fresh, which is doubly awesome. There is a low-battery indicator so you know when it's time to change the batteries and it gives you a solid 2 weeks to get new batteries in my experience. This is a fantastic food dispenser for a procrastinator like me ;-) This was the best pet food-related purchase I've had in years AND has lasted years and is still going strong. It's been so great I even recommended it to my own vet, who took the recommendation and loves her machine for her own cats equally as much; so much so that she's been passing on my recommendation to other pet owners since her own acquisition! If you can program an alarm clock, you can program the LeBistro!Read More
I have had this product replaced 3 times and on the 4th time the manufacture sent me a different brand but same product, it was now called AspenPet. Just as bad! Well, let me tell what happened this product is an automatic feeder and you can set up different times for your pet to be feed. But it would consistently have a glitch in feeding my dog at the times set. When it did it would blink on either Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner to notify that it did not feed at those times, which then in-turn would stop feeding and not continue the cycle. So if it did not feed at Dinner time the night before the next morning it would not feed for the Breakfast. This is horrible because I have an extremely busy schedule and I would rely that this product would feed my dog, but then I noticed my dog was getting skinnier and started begging for food when I had dinner, that's when I noticed that this piece of crap product had not fed my dog in 3 days. I would not usually make a big issue about a product but it has been replaced 4 times. DO NOT buy this product for your pet(s), just get the regular bowl/dish feeder where you're the one that feeds your pet(s) by scooping the food yourself. OVERSTOCK: Shame on you for raising the price on such a bad product, I purchased it for around $$$ and now I see it on your site for $$$!Read More

The feeder arrived in a white plastic, not black. When putting it together,I spilled quite a bit of food until I realized that it doesn't lock into place very firmly, and the lid has to have the small arrows lined up in order to remove it.Our cat is overweight, having spent six years in one room with 50 cats at the rescue house where we adopted him. He was 18 pounds, and he probably should be 12 pounds. He's currently 14 pounds and losing, much to his dismay. I had been feeding him at dawn and dusk, so that he would come home and be inside by sunrise and sunset, when the coyotes are busy hunting for food. He's very food-motivated, so he never misses a mealtime. We've only had the feeder a few days, and he's already used to it. One thing to be careful of: The hopper is clear, and since cats are visual animals, our cat ate the quarter cup portion, looked at all that food still in the bin, and immediately started putting his paw up into the opening, successfully getting more food to fall into the bowl. Uh Oh! So, I turned the bowl towards the wall, and that made the angle too difficult for him to get more food. Then he started turning the machine towards himself, and I thought I might have to tape the machine in place. I kept turning the bowl towards the wall, though, and he lost interest in trying to get the food out of the opening (for now). I do hope he's not going to try again to manipulate the machine. He's pretty smart, and he's pretty hungry, but so far (two days), so good. I would recommend this to other pet owners who either want to limit the food the animal gets or travels a lot. We plan to leave him at home alone on our next short trip, and it seems this will work well. Be careful when handling the machine, as the hopper is flimsy and not attachéd too firmly to the base.Read More

What to Pack for Africa's Highest Peak
Imagine that you are planning a trip that will take you from the equator to Antarctica in seven days. Now imagine that you have to limit the amount of gear you pack to 35 pounds or less. The task is getting more complicated. What kind of luggage would you choose and how would you pack for a trip that encompasses such extreme changes in climate and altitude? When Erica Davis, a paraplegic athlete, and Tara Butcher, a physically challenged athlete, climb Africa's highest peak, they will have to answer exactly those questions. The challenge: Mount Kilimanjaro rises from nearly sea level all the way up to 19,330 feet. The trail climbs from the hot bushland through rain forest, moorland, alpine desert and arctic glaciers up to the rocky Uhuru peak. A climb like Mt. Kili presents special challenges when it comes to luggage, clothing and gear. Being prepared for the weather and temperature extremes is a necessity, but it's also important not to pack too much. There is a 35-pound weight limit to each piece of luggage carried by a porter. Most climbers pack one 35-pound capacity bag to go up with a porter and one small daypack to carry up themselves. The daypack: Erica and Tara will have 7 days to summit Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro. As they pass from one ecological zone to the next, their needs will change and so will the contents of their daypacks. Each day Erica and Tara will repack their daypacks in anticipation of the specific challenges of the day's journey. In general, their daypacks will include things like water, snacks, dry clothing, waterproof gear and sunscreen. The importance of keeping clothing and gear dry cannot be overstated. When choosing a daypack, a small to medium backpack made of lightweight, moisture-resistant material that comes with a removable waterproof shell will be ideal. It's also helpful if the backpack has convenient access to a water bottle compartment or can accommodate a water bladder. Plenty of pockets, zipper compartments and hooks are also handy. What to pack: A sturdy but lightweight water-repellant duffel bag with a capacity of about 35 pounds is ideal for the trek to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The bag needs to have room for plenty of layers of breathable, moisture-wicking clothing and layers of fleece clothing, as well as a waterproof layer. To save space, it's a good idea to pack clothing that does double duty, such as pants that easily convert into shorts. Aside from clothing, the climb will also require accessories like sunglasses, hats and gloves, plus equipment like trekking poles and a headlamp, as well as toiletries like sunscreen, insect repellent and a first-aid kit. Support the Challenged Athletes Foundation: Overstock.com and the C.H.E.K Institute are co-sponsoring Erica and Tara's climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise awareness for athletes with physical challenges who wish to participate and compete in sports. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). CAF raises funds to give physically challenged athletes the opportunity to stay active and competitive in the sports they love.
