First, I never buy a crate thinking the padding it comes with will be good enough for my pet, and you shouldn't either, so just plan on always buying a separate mattress. So now inside the perfect home and travel crate is the perfect orthopedic cushion (from another vendor with the exact same dimensions with a bolster for smushed faced snorty sleepers). It has several strong zippers and openings everywhere you could possibly want them,, 2 roomy storage packs, strong coated mesh screening (i have 2 hyper boston terrors) so unless your dog is really an unruley beaver, i can't foresee a durability issue. Don't pick by color, pick by size, you're picking for your dogs comfort not your decor; so this size didn't match my bedroom but it matched their need to sleep like they are great danes. Since each side is some portion of mesh it gets wonderful ventilation. It also folds down with ease and to about the size of 2 large pizza boxes stacked (it's the side wall dimension x about 3-4"). I also find that rescue or shelter dogs likeand sleep better in soft crates The clinking of a metal crate and the bad memories they have of those sounds cause them restless rest. Both girls don't have to hear "Bedtime" twice before they are running into their crates and under their goose down throws (overstock). Sweet dreams furbabies.
We got this crate for our 10-pound Boston/Yorkie, and it was great for the first couple months. Then the zipper started to pull away from the canvas - when the hole became large enough for her to find and put a paw through, I contacted PetGear, and after a few emails back and forth, they sent a new canvas cover right away - great service! The new canvas cover seemed more substantial - stronger canvas and mesh, but the zippers were always a little sticky. Then, last week, one of the zippers separated from itself, and it won't zip or unzip properly. Of course, our clever little pup figured that out immediately, found the weak spot, and broke through twice. I'm debating whether or not to contact PetGear for yet another cover, or go with something else entirely...
- How did the image on site compare with the actual product? The color is not the same as in the picture (it's more blue than purple), but that doesn't bother me
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. OK - could be better
Unfortunately this product did not work for us. The 2nd time we used it our dog chewed right through the screen and got out. Normally, she would not do this, so we were quite surprised. So unfortunately we had to find other alternatives while we are camping.
- How did the image on site compare with the actual product? The color is a little different than what's online...but a great color.
- How accurate was the on site description of the product? Accurate.
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Not Good...too easy for a dog to get through.
I received the product and like how easy it is to set up and take down, quality of the material is very good, how ever the color was not what I was expecting. I thought that it was going to be purple instead I am not sure if it is purple or blue. I would have been really happy if it look just like it did in the picture, that purple color. Out side of this I really do love it and we used it at our first Agility trial. It was light to carry and easy to set up and with all the venting my very long hair, very full coat shelties really liked it and didn't seem to get hot in it as he has in other kennels.
This create is incredibly easy to set up and take down. It is lightweight but the zippers and fabric are strong. It is exactly what you want in folding, fabric crate.
If your dog is not used to being in a crate or has separation anxiety DO NOT buy this product. I live in a very small New York apartment so I thought this would be the perfect crate for my dog. Easy to fold up when not in use, and light weight. The first time I put here in here, she figured out how to open the zipper compartment and got out. The second time I left her in it I tied all of the zippers together with string and she ripped right through the mesh within 30 minutes (I know this because my roommate called me to say she was out approximately 30 minutes after I'd left the apartment). The description says that it is made of strong mesh, but my dog is small, a chihuahua/corgie mix, and she easily tore through it like the Incredible Hulk.
