I ordered this wire dog cage for my 4 yr. old Yorkie, working out great. I got the perfect size and she likes it so much better than the crate. I have a nice comfy little bed in the back half, Precious eats her breakfast and dinner in the cage as sh has 2 sisters and one brother also eating in their cges. All of my babies are rescues.
We are crate training our new 6mo old boarder collie. The first day we crated him, and left the house for work, we came home to find that he managed to open the crate?!? Other than growing thumbs we can only figure he manipulated the bottom "hook" that keeps the black pan in place which then after sliding the black pan out gave him room to wiggle the bottom latch. With patience and determination he pushed his way through and got out. That night I checked everything and put the crate back together. My BC, smart Houdini that he is, managed to bend the bottom of the crate. I was able to get it back in shape and still use it but I have to slide the gate end close to a wall so my pup cannot manipulate the crate. Bottom line: for smart dogs, the bottom "hook latch" thing that holds the pan in doesn't latch/hook tight enough. This was a large crate and it has a great divider for the inside to adjust the size if the crate to grow with your pup.
I have personally purchased 3 of these crates from the Midwest company and have been very pleased with the quality of construction and ease of assembling. I will purchase more from this company and recommend this product to any and everyone. Thanks, Patty
