Great solution for home with both cats and dogs
We got this gate to keep our new (big) puppy from getting upstairs. We also wanted to give our cats a way to travel freely through the house. The gate and extender work great and were easy to install. The opening is a little narrow--you do have to lift things like laundry baskets over it--but you quickly get used to it. The cat opening was big enough for our puppy to get through, so for now we have a piece of wood secured across the top of the cat door to make it smaller, but that works fine. You should plan on installing it; although it works, after a fashion, simply with pressure, it works much, much better when you install the cups on the wall and rest it in them. All in all, a good buy, and cheaper here on Overstock than I found it on Amazon.

Good Quality.
Works as advertised. The Carlson website states that you should not use more than two extensions with the gate. This is a true statement. I have two extensions for a 72" opening. It works, but is not solid like the 32" and 36" openings...it moves back and forth when opening the gate or the dog tries jumping on it. Eventually, my 20 lbs golden retriever puppy will be 65-85 lbs and I don't think it will hold her back. Hopefully, we will have her completely house broken by then.

Works well for larger openings!
Perfect product to keep our dog in patio area. If using it with extensions on both ends, you will find that the middle needs a little stabilization to keep it working well. We put landscape staples between the bottom bars in the middle area protruding into the cobblestone mortar joints. That really helped.
