Extra Tall Pet Gate GREAT for CATS
I recently purchased the Carlson extra-tall, extra-wide pet gate. I have four adult cats and need to keep them out of my bedroom for allergy reasons. Shutting the door just wasn't an option. This gate is perfect for keeping the cats out of the room. They are unable to jump the gate due to it's height of 41". They're also unable to get through the slats, though they did try for a few hours, to no avail. Now they just sit outside and look at me, feel reassured, then lie down and relax. With the door's being closed, they used to scratch and meow to no end! I LOVE THIS GATE! (I cannot address how this gate would work for large dogs; only how it works for me with the cats.) Gate is easy to install in a doorway because it has tension rods. No screws or nails needed. Installing at top of stairs might be different, but I can't address that. The gate comes with a width extension for an open-hallway stairs. To enter/exit the room, the gate has a "people door" easily accessed by lifting a lever on the top, Also, there's a door at the bottom of the gate for your small pet. The gate is made of white metal, resists scratching, and is attractive -- actually, it's interesting to look at. I would highly recommend this product. Will definitely buy another one in the near future.

measure carefully
Be clear that this is not a tension gate but a pressure mount gate. It includes cup that can be screwed into your wall if you want it to be a more permanent installation or as advised when used at the top of stairs. It comes with a 6 inch extender but because of my base board I'm going to have to order the 4 inch to use instead at the top of my stairs because it's too wide at the bottom. Just something to keep in mind. Works great in an interior door and my cat loves the little pet door when she wants to get away from the pup. Overall a helpful gate.

exactly right!!
I got this gate to keep my retriever out of the cat-only area of the house, so he wouldn't get into the litter boxes and cat food. It works GREAT!! It was very simple to install and is very simple to use. My 2 (almost 3) year old can easily open, go through, and close the gate (to get to the bathroom on the other side!). My cats have no hesitation going through the cat gate either. The only complaint I have is that the pressure mounting does not hold up to the 3 yr old pushing against it. I did not attach the more permanent cups, which I may to to alleviate this problem, but as of now it is easy to just reposition it back in place. It truly is not a baby gate. To address a different, previous complaint, there is no way my 60 pound dog could fit through the cat door if he tried!! I don't think he could even get his head through, let alone his legs and shoulders. In short, I am thrilled with this gate. It is sharp and effective and easy to use!

Finally! A gate for the big and tall!
I've bought multiples of these. My dog is tall and another dog is a sneaky jumper. I have had no problem since installing these. Make sure you measure and buy an extension if you need one. I like that they come with a plate type thing that you can screw into your wall if you want to give more protection where the ends meet the wall. I've had more than one gate put a nice round hole through my wall; not this gate! The small door also latches if you want so you could close it if you have a small puppy and then open it when he grows too big to fit through. Also swings shuts and latches with just a touch. I love it!! The value is superb. Most gates this size and quality are quite pricey. You will not be disappointed.

Cats can jump this fence.
This is an excellent fence, however, I bought it to keep my cats from being able to access certain areas of our home..... they can BOTH jump this fence. One has a gimpy hind leg, to, and he can still jump it... :: sigh :: I don't know what to do to keep these cats contained. HOWEVER, if you want to purchase this product for any other reason..... this fence is great!

Not a great gate
The door for humans to get through is very, very narrow. My brother has a 28 inch waste (super skinny) and even he felt it was awkward to walk through. The pet door didn't come with a knob, so whenever it's opened the spring flies off so now we have to keep it open all the time. When I contacted the company for a replacement part (as per their request) I was told they didn't have any (specifically; that the "manufacturer" had them and not Carlson so obviously Carlson outsources and only applies their name to the product) and that I would need to pack up the whole thing, contact O.co to return it and go through that whole fiasco. On top of all of that, the gate itself doesn't stay in place, it is in no way secure, if we had a large dog he/she would be able to knock it over with the wag of its tail. When opening the "human" door, it gets stuck because there is a large amount of solder obstructing it and we have to pull the entire gate out to get it open. What an awful product!

Nice and easy walk thru gate.
This is easy to install and use. My dachshunds caught on quickly and still try to sneak thru. The big dogs have not tried to jump over it. Looks much better than the wooden gates with wire grates I have been using.

Pet Gate works great
i have been using this gate for a few weeks now at the top of my basement steps. It works good. We have a young very active cat that can still leap over the top of the gate. It works well in keeping my pit bull upstairs when we are not home. My only suggestion would be to mount the gate away from the top step as much as possible. I screwed it in the center of my doorway, so you have to step through the gate and down the first step at the same time. I would have been better off leaving more room to step through the gate and then be able to step down to the first step. The gate works as designed and allows the cats through the opening while keeping my dog in place.

Good Gate for the price
We had 34 inch gates that our dog would just jump over. She has not jumped over these yet, so I think we are good. The gates were easy to install. There are only 2 drawbacks. 1. The opening you walk through is pretty narrow. We are not a big family, and I imagine it could be annoying for a larger family. 2. If you use the gate as pressure only, it falls over easily. I found the wall mounting system to be necessary so the dog doesn't knock the gate over.

Second gate purchase
It is placed in the doorway to our laundry room where a litter box is kept. The cat has access via the small door. Our dogs are on the small side (22 and 27 lbs) so I had to partially block the "cat door" opening with a couple widths of Duct tape. This also secures the mini door in an always open position. The mini door does have a spring mechanism to close it and "block" access if ever needed. We have had to make several household accommodations in lieu of our 3 cats and 2 dogs. I needed another gate to further block access/separate some of our pets, thus the reason for buying a second gate. The way the gate latches enables you to not have to snap the lock down in a fully locked/closed manner thus you can still go in or out of the gate with only needing one free hand to lift the lever which secures the gate shut from both sides. We use this feature most of the time. When the latch is fully engaged and "locked shut" you really need both hands to open the gate. One hand needs to retract the locking spring mechanism while another hand swings the gate open. The gate that has been in use for over a year and a half has remained quite secure in the door jam just using the counter pressure screw pads. The newer gate needed me to screw into the door jam the included screw pad "cups" for extra stability. Four cups are included but I only needed to use the upper two. Small screws were easy to insert into the door jam with a manual screw driver. These "cups" securely hold the pressure mounted screw pads so that during use the gate remains firmly stable in the doorway. Excellent functionality and very simple installation. If the gate becomes loose over time and use it is simple to adjust the screw pads to increase the tension holding the gate. The gate can be installed for right or left access use.
