Make sure that your furry friend never goes hungry by using this electronic pet feeder to dispense your pet's preferred portion sizes throughout the day. This handy feeder holds up to 10 pounds of dry food, and the battery-powered device is easy to use....more
The automatic feeder jammed three times in the first week. The last jam occurred while no one was home prompting our cat to resort to alternative measures to get at the food. This is where the flimsiness of the hopper is important, the cat was able to easily squish in the sides of the top of the hopper which then resulted in the cap popping off of the top. The hopper plastic can be compared to that of a 2 liter bottle of soda. Needless to say, the cat was well fed even though the feeder jammed (Cat 1, Feeder 0). I would not recommend this product as it is unreliable and easy for a pet to circumvent. If a cat can push in the sides you could imagine what a large dog could do to it. I would certainly not trust this feeder while out of town. Based on this, the feeder is essentially unusable to me and I would recommend against purchasing it.
How did the image on site compare with the actual product? Image matches product.
How accurate was the on site description of the product? Accurate, although the sturdiness of the hopper (or lack thereof) is not well described.
Please tell us about the quality of the product. The product jammed three times in a week. The hopper is made of a very flimsy plastic.
I bought this automatic feeder for weekend trips. I ran across it in a store and the price was right so I decided to give it a try. I had turned down a more expensive model in another store because the top popped off easily. This one locks on tightly which is a must for a cat who can open rubbermaid bins.
I highly recommend testing any automatic feeder for a day or two before leaving on a trip. You don't want to come home and find your pet didn't get fed due to a defect or programming error. That being said, I brought this product home, programmed it, this will take a few minutes. Make sure you set the time first, then start setting your feeding times and amounts. Amounts are in 1/4 cup increments. We were gone for only 24 hours and I set the amount a little higher than I actually needed to, mainly to make sure my piggy cat didn't starve my other cat. When we came home there was quite a bit of food in the bowl, so I decreased the amount and now I just have it set to handle one of their daily feedings to make sure it works before we leave for a longer trip. So far, so good.
I did read some complaints on another store website that this product did not work for them. It was pictured in a different color so maybeit has been tweaked since then, or maybe they didn't program it correctly, I don't know, but it works perfectly for me. I use cat food that comes in small round kibbles and it works great. I would recommend this product! My one and only complaint is that when you turn the product off it erases everything you have programmed in, so you have to take the time to reprogram it the next time you plan to use it. You could just leave it on and use it all the time but I feed my cats canned food when I'm home so I don't need it to feed them 3 times a day on normal days. You can program it to serve up to 3 meals a day, you just skip the ones you dont want to serve. All in all a great product!

This is junk made in China with a licensing agreement that allows the manufacturer to stamp "Animal Planet" on it.
First of all, I knew I was in trouble when what I initially thought was just packing material was actually the hopper. It's made of cheap, flimsy plastic -- no thicker than that of a 2-liter bottle of soda as another observed. The lid won't attach because the plastic of the hopper has so much give the notches in the lid won't lock onto it.
Second, despite the manual's assurances that you can switch out the batteries without losing your programming information, you will need to reprogram everything any time you switch out the batteries, turn the device off, or unplug the (not included/optional) AC adapter. No clue why the manufacturer put a on/off switch that causes the unit to lose all the settings, which will take several minutes of your time to reprogram.
The other negative reviews on here are spot on. The customer reviews on other retail sites are similarly glum on this product. You've been warned. I wish I was.
So many problems with the feeder. Bottom line, the only part that is worthwhile is the bowl. The timer loses minutes each day. The hopper jams with every use and you have to dis-assemble the device to fix it. It also goes through batteries on a weekly basis. Do not buy this piece of junk. THERE IS NO WARRANTY. I scoured the documentation and there is no warranty.
This is a great feeder, but! I could not get it to dispense 1/4 cup everything else but never 1/4 cup. I have a 5 dog and anything more then 1/4 would like him. So I can not use this. Although I do think it's great. Just not for small dog or cats.
I tried to use a DC adapter I had laying around the house on the feeder, and now all it does is dispense with nothing lit on the screen. I tried holding the reset button but nothing works. I put the batteries back in and it does the same at a lower speed. Did the DC adapter short circuit this thing? Is there a way to fix this problem?mike25atc on Apr 12, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question

This item comes with step by step instructions so you are able to set the time, quantities/amount of food and how many times during the day you want the dispenser to release food.

Is it possible to use a different bowl with this feeder? My cat has "acne," and the vet has warned against plastic bowls.ej90 on Mar 14, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The manual on the red/black one I have indicates programming doesn't get lost when the batteries are removed for changing, but that's not the case. It loses all programming and resets the time to 12:00 whenever power is lost or the main power switch is turned off.
Were there any versions that actually had nonvolatile memory to keep the settings when it was turned off?wingerr on Dec 22, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
I've encountered the same problem, as has a friend who has the same unit. The manual explicitly states "Your programming information is stored and will not be lost when you change the batteries." When I called customer service, two different representatives told me that I should not lose the settings if I turn the unit off or remove the batteries or power cord. So they concluded by unit is defective.
However, I'm reading many customer reviews on other sites with the same observation: You flip the switch, switch out the batteries, or unplug it, you lose all the settings. So either there are a lot of defective units out there, or the manufacturer is woefully unfamiliar with its own product's design.stevengnc on Jan 27, 2014
I know this is an indoor item, but could it be used for 3 days out in the cold weather?jgk7623 on Dec 22, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
It might be a problem if it rains and collects in the feeding bowl. It also may not be meant to be able to withstand rain, though the keypad looks fairly moisture resistant.
Cold might have an effect on the batteries, which might be a problem if it's extremely cold.
Otherwise, it'd probably be okay if kept in a sheltered location.wingerr on Dec 22, 2012

Either 3 D batteries, or a DC 4.5V 800mA power adapter (not included).
It may be good to use a properly regulated DC power adapter along with the batteries (though this is warned against in the manual, because the batteries would be connected to the adapter power and may cause them to leak).
If the adapter has the correct voltage to exactly match the batteries, if AC power is lost, the batteries would maintain the programming. Otherwise it would reset and your pet will no longer be fed.
Using AC power would allow it to run indefinitely without needing regular battery replacement (manual does not state how long a set of batteries is expected to last).
If it were a choice of either operating with AC or batteries alone, it would be safer to go with batteries, to avoid the danger of AC power loss disabling the feeder.wingerr on Dec 22, 2012
