Why did you choose this product?
I read the product description and reviews, so I knew that this magnifier must be held away from the page - however, was disappointed in the descriptions I found online and provided with the product, as none seemed to give a height or height range for best viewing - but perhaps that varies with the person... I got this for viewing cross-stitch designs while I'm stitching, as the symbols can sometimes be hard to distinguish. I also got a stand with magnets for holding the designs in place, and wanted this magnifier to use with it - I will need to get some magnetized spacers of some sort or an arm for holding this on the stand at the best distance from the design for me - so, I guess I'll need to get a bit creative with that, but not a big deal, as this will provide the magnification I need!!! I'm very much looking forward to get that all set up for my use.

I bought a magnetic paperwork holder from another vendor (that product was much cheaper through them, which is usually NOT the case) that didn't come with a magnifier, and am hoping this magnifier will work with that holder. I'm planning to use both for holding needlework layouts and directions/instructions, to help me better keep track of where I'm supposed to be putting stitches, and in which colors! Dang this getting older stuff..

you haven't answered the previous question clearly.. if i lay it on a printed sheet, will it magnify the page or do i have to hold it away from the sheet for clear magnification? i believe your answer to boardeli's question is yes.
