No Problem
outofthebox  from Cleveland, OH,  Nov 6, 2009
Box arrived sufficiently shredded that I took photos assuming there was a good chance I'd have to return a damaged product. Fortunately, everything faired well and went together without any real problems. Kept the initial bolts loose and the arms lined up without too much pressure. No issue with the lift mechanism (not overly stiff). Overall this product exceeded my expectations given some of the reviews.

Good Chair
pfshop  from TX,  Oct 3, 2009
We love the chairs - they're sturdy and look great. Our only frustration was the directions for assembly could barely be classified as directions and we had to call customer service to figure out how to raise and lower - they are super hard to raise and lower the first time so you fee like you're going to break them. Customer service (manufacturer) was great though and walked us through it.

Mixed Feelings
finch123  from Cincinnati, OH,  Sep 20, 2009
I only wanted a chair that is used occasionally - not an all day work station. Looks and comfort are adequate for that. More precise directions would have been nice. The pneumatic feature is poor - otherwise it's fine.

Nothing Special...
merrimani  from Pickerington, OH,  Sep 18, 2009
I was excited to get this chair and see if it lived up to my expectations...but it has not completely.I've had this for about 6 months now and it's not wearing well at all.The good:Nice finish, though it does damage easily...rich warm color matches my mahogany desk very well, this is the reason I got it.Decent cushion, comfortable for long hours at the computer...which I average at least 8 a day working from home. The Bad:It just isn't that tight, the joints are loose, and i'm consistently having to tighten the screws in it because the arms and back section are loose and shifting around. A chair like this should be tight, and not do that. I wasn't looking for an heirloom quality chair, but I did spend a reasonable sum and got less than I expected.-There is a design flaw in the arms, they have a joint right where your hands would sit on the arms, and it not only looks bad, but doesn't help when it starts getting loose. This baby rocks and moves around just like a chair shouldn't.-The bottom portion of the chair, under the cushion, the wood is cracking and splitting and looks like 6 years of wear, not 6 months. In the end, i'm happy because i didn't pay a lot for it, but I should have saved my money and bought the Herman Miller chair I wanted to get in the first place....but it didn't match my office. Bottom line, i'm sitting in the chair I wanted to replace with this one with, typing this review because it's way more comfortable and doesn't shift and rock every time i move.

Excellent Value
bostonsprite  from Boston,  Sep 9, 2009
These chairs are excellent for the usual study/library setting. They are functional, stylish in appearance, and comfortable. Someone looking for fine furniture will find the finish too superficial and the detailing sparse, but for most of our needs for a simple computer or desk chair, this amply fits the bill. The price is low and, while that isn't the most important factor in buying, certainly it makes this purchase an excellent value.

Nice value, good workmanship. Instructions are a bit confusing, but can be assembled by one person. Only complaint is it is difficult to change the height of the chair.

Bankers Chair
omcgyver  from LA,  Aug 21, 2009
Very fast delivery, and chair was very easy to assemble. It is very comfortable and ideal for our setting. Only problem is paint on wood chips easily, but for the price compared to more authentic pieces just right for our budget.

Nice
specialfx  from PA,  Aug 15, 2009
I replaced one cherry office chair with this one because I wanted the softer leather seat. It is a nice chair, however I am a little disappointed with the arm joint. The arm is two pieces of wood and the joint is very visible: right on the bend and rather unsightly. The arms on my other chair were one piece of wood: a much cleaner look.

Good But Not Great
Anonymous  from Fort Lauderdale, FL,  Aug 10, 2009
I bought this chair after reading the reviews and it fits (fashionably) with my new computer workstation. When it arrived the box looked good, opened it up and the back to the chair was broken, it is glued in with a notch instead of screws and i had to apply a generous amount of carpenters glue to fix it, it looks okay with my fix. This will not deter me from ordering through Overstock.com, this might have been a vendor issue or an "in transit issue", not Overstock's fault.Thank you!

Boss office chair
grossepointer  from Michigan,  Aug 8, 2009
This wooden chair looks so much more professional/attractive than the fabric office chairs that are so readily available in stores. Sleek look, comfortable seat, pretty easy to assemble...had a problem, at first, assembling the chair to the base (pole) of the wheel assembly. Couldnt get the pneumatics to work (arm under the seat). With fiddling, its fine now. Im very please with the chair.Amazed that shipping was so low while chair weighed so much.Plus, I waited 3 weeks until I found a good coupon to use against the cost of the chair.Great deal, great find! Chair looks good with the wood of our computer hutch.

Great Chair
Scubaguy001  from California,  Jan 26, 2009
I purchased the Boss Hardwood Bankers Office Chair (Black). This chair was easy to put together and looks very nice. It's very comfortable, looks great and well worth the small price for a high quality desk chair. I am very happy with my first overstock.com purchase and have already placed my second order for another piece of furniture (the Salsa Chaise Lounge). I can't wait for my next order to arrive and look forward to writing, what I am sure will be, another great review!!

This is the worst purchase I ever made. When assembling the arms and attaching them to the chair the holes did not allign and I had to force them to fit. After several weeks of use, the arms broke apart at the curve and could not be fixed. I removed the arms thinking I could get along without them. However the back of the chair broke off after I leaned back on it. If I had the reciept, I would mail it back to Overstock for a refund. DO NOT BUY THIS CHAIR.

pros: Good looking, looks like old fashion hardwood chairs. Easily assembled by my self. Seems sturdy and I expect it to las for some time. Cons: The finish is easily marred indicating poor quality finishing, just surface color of coat . Putting a coat of polyurethane would make the finish more durable and would extend the life of the finish.

MR & MRS J
mzjj  from Philadelphia,  Dec 27, 2008
The bankers chair in a cherry finish was exactly what we wanted, and we were so pleased when we first saw it and put it together. It looked beautiful. However, in just a couple of days the finish on the right arm of the chair started to peel then we noticed it was splitting and the underside of the arm was splintering. We were so disappointed and now we are afraid to order another one for fear that the workship and materials are of poor quality. It almost seems as if there is an engineering flaw because there are seams right at the curve of the arm, an obvious stress point.Returning it also presented a problem, because we were able to take off the arms, the back and the seat, but could not separate the base (with the wheels) from the pole that fit into it. Therefore, we could not use the original box and had to pay almost $30 to UPS to have them wrap it and return it.

An attractive value
jason41  from Alexandria, VA,  Nov 28, 2008
The Boss Hardwood Bankers Office Chair is a great fit for a small home office (a converted child's bedroom). It is well packaged and easy to assemble. Spare assembly parts are included in the shipment. It is conveniently adjustable without unnecessary fussiness. Overall, it is both functional and attractive.

Comfy and nice looking
kacvb  from Dallas, TX,  Nov 1, 2008
I ordered this chair in black back in July to replace another banker's chair that had prematurely bit the dust. But I intentionally waited to review it because after reading quite a few mixed opinions on how well the chair holds up to daily wear and tear--especially after seeing how my previous chair did actually fit the description of some reviewer's complaints, I was cautious not to rave too soon. However, after hours of daily use for 4 months I have nothing to offer but a good report. The chair looks expensive and having spied models of similar quality at a local high-end furniture store--ones priced MUCH higher--and then alternately finding far shoddier versions of it at discount office supply places, I feel even better about my purchase. I like a chair that sits straight up and this one offers a rigid back. If you like to lean back or dislike sitting quite upright, this is not the chair for you. But if you're accustomed to banker chairs that don't have a million up/down and back/forth adjustment options, want a quality-looking piece that was easy to assemble and was not missing any parts (says the hubby), a breeze to clean, holds my not so petite frame with ease, and has held up quite beautifully, I'd buy with confidence. The two main pluses for me: the lack of flimsy plastic at the base of the chair--the piece that connects the legs to the cylinder support (my old banker's chair looked SO cheap just because of that darn piece of plastic)-- and the quality of the casters. This baby can roll as smoothly and effortlessly as any chair I've ever owned. I have no reservations that this chair will serve me well for years to come.

I was a little uncertain given some of the mixed reviews on this chair, but it looked like such a good value, I thought I'd give it a try. I was wary when the very tattered box arrived (although shipping was extremely fast!) literally hanging closed by one thread of tape! There was a minor dent and chip of missing paint on the top of the chair back, but the small chip was able to be fixed with a sharpie, and the dent was not highly visible. Weighed against the time and effort it would taken to send the chair back, I opted to keep it instead. The chair was very easy to put together. Just make sure to follow the instructions about putting the screws in loosely until the pieces fit together, then tighten the screws, or you may have problems with drill holes lining up. The tilt, height adjustment, and swivel work great. It is also fairly comfortable, but I wouldn't want to sit in it for hours on end. The leather/padded cushion is not very soft, but does the job. The style and quality for the price are great.. You get the look of that chair that sells for $300+ at that other store, but for much less! All in all, I would make this purchase again.
