I waited until several months after my purchase to write this review until I could fully test out this carryon bag. I wasn't sure that this bag with the many zipper pockets and packets would serve my style of packing. I just returned from a two week trip and found the bag to be wonderfully designed as well as holding a lot of paraphernalia. The pockets were easy to use and they were heavy plastic that allowed damp or possibly spilled objects to be contained. The exterior pockets were very helpful for items needed during flight or a small umbrella.. The back has a zippered sleeve that I put a water bottle in, but I'm not sure what it was designed for. Unfortunately, like many bags it seems to have been designed prior to some of the TSA restrictions as there is a snap-out packet meant for easy access to shampoos and toothpaste, etc. but it has elasticized pockets and cannot be used as a substitute for the 1 quart bag. I was amazed at how much this bag held! It is lightweight, which is an important criteria when travelling through some countries The wheels seem very sturdy. In-line wheels are more stable than the spinner type for use on city pavement and cobblestones. Some reviewers were concerned about the handle, but it proved to be very sturdy as well as I used it to be looped with a strap to my larger bag. The telescoping handle was effective and though the single "T" handle was different, it was not awkward to pull. My only complaint with this bag is with Travelon not providing any guidelines for the best use of all the different pockets. It would have been helpful and may have given me some good packing ideas. There is draw string bag permanently attached to the inside of one of the front outside zipper pockets that I think was meant for jewelry. I'm sure there was some good designing put into this bag and I would like to know what their plan was. All in all based on performance and price (I did a lot of price comparisons) this was an excellent purchase and I would highly recommend this carry-on bag.Read More
Was looking for an underseat carryon. Haven't flown since I bought it, but I did use for a recent overnight trip. Worked very well to carry cosmetics, electronics, hair tools and shoes. Lots of pockets; trick is to remember where you put things! Zippers are a bit stiff, so hoping they hold up. Each zipped area has double zippers, so I'll just use one of them so I have a backup if it fails. Recommend.Read More
We have owned one of these for years and traveled with it quite a bit. We bought 3 of these, on for each of our adult children, The price on Overstock .com was unbeatable.Read More
While this carry-on had many pockets and places to put things, it just did not seem sturdy enough to be a regular airline traveling companion.Read More
Great little bag! Easily rolls down airplane aisle and fits under most sits. I love that all the pockets are see-through - makes it much easier to find things. I deliver training classes, so travel frequently. I like how organized this bag is. Only two potential drawbacks - 1) I'm concerned the cascading handle will break easily and 2) it is a little snug to put class binders/manuals in it. I've made it work, but have to wiggle them a bit. Have only been using the bag a few weeks, but it was highly recommended by a colleague that has had it a couple years. Overstock.com definitely had the best price when I searched.Read More
I bought this for my daughter who was traveling to Britain with her 11 month old. She wanted something small enough to easily tuck under the seat in front of her, and whose contents would be accessible without pulling the whole thing out. She said it worked like a charm, and she was extremely pleased with it.Read More
i have been looking for a small carry on that would hold a weeks worth of clothes and not be too heavy to place in the overhead bins on the plane. This is a great little bag for the money. Easily can do a three day trip and and if you pack efficiently a 7 day trip! lots of compartments to hold all your stuff. I'd get this again in a heartbeat!Read More
We bought this bag for a European trip which we are currently on. I bought it for the main reason that it could fit under the seat instead of in the overhead bin. I was a little skeptical, but for MOST airline seats, it really does fit. There are a few exceptions, such as seats with electronic boxes under them. Fortunately, because we were traveling as a group, in those instances I switched places with my kids so it could fit under their seat instead. If you were traveling alone, you could always use the overhead bin. I appreciate all of the organizational features this bag has. I'm not so sure about the plastic compartments for longevity, but we'll see how that wears with time. The only other thing I might change is the fact that there is 1 handle to carry it when the retractable is down. There is a concern that if this ever breaks, there is no easy way to carry the bag. Again, time will tell on this. Other than that, it's a great bag that we hope to use a lot.Read More
This bag is a great size. It fits easily under the seat of a commercial aircraft. It even is classified as a personal item on ***** so there is no fee for the bag. Fits all you need for a weekend.Read More
I got one just like this several months ago & have used it for domestic & international travel. Like it so much when my son/daughter-in-law were getting ready for a trip with us & complained about having to pack stuff they'd rather keep with them I got them this bag. They loved it as much as I do mine. Just perfect to fit under airline seat & carry all the things you need for long flights -- packs neck pillows, jewelry, meds, my Kindle & husband's electronics -- holds it all with no problem. Wheels make it easy to carry on board & thru terminals. Wonderful bag!!Read More
Questions & Answers
Hello davidedwin, I am sorry for the confusion. The smaller dimensions are correct. The handle extends out to 25 inches.
Does this bag have a strap or sleeve across the back that allows for stacking it securely on the extended handle of a taller rolling bag to get to the baggage check? Several of the more expensive bags have this strap or sleeve on the back to allow stacking. Thanks.
Thank you for contacting us rhep1. This bag does not have a sleeve or strap across the back of the bag. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Couldn't stack this bag, but used a strap from my larger bag to piggy-back this in front and it worked very well. There is a zippered pocket on the back with a net insert, but it has a closed bottom and so it does not slip over the handle of another bag. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of this pocket is. I put a magazine and a water bottle in it.
does this have separate compartment for laptops?
This does have large zippered pockets inside, so you can store your laptop.
How far does the handle extend on this bag
It extends to 25 inches.
How to Choose Carry-on Luggage
People who travel frequently know that carry-on luggage is the fastest way to get in and out of an airport, bus or train station. Carrying your own luggage means you don't have to wait for your checked luggage to be brought to you. Most travelers take at least one piece of carry-on luggage on every trip so they'll have the necessities in the event that their checked luggage is lost or stolen. Others travel with only carry-on luggage so they can avoid the hassle and, sometimes, the expense of checked luggage. Read on to learn how to choose carry-on luggage.
Carry-on Luggage Restrictions
As airline regulations become more stringent, more people are packing lighter and using carry-on luggage. Knowing the restrictions for your airline will help you avoid additional checked baggage fees or problems on the plane. While every airline has its own rules, most luggage regulations are very similar. Before buying your new luggage, read about carry-on rules.
Hardside Luggage vs Softside Luggage
There are some very obvious differences between hardside luggage and softside luggage. But there are also a lot of more subtle differences, and knowing all the differences between the two types of luggage can help you find a luggage set that is right for you and makes your travels easier. Materials: Hardside luggage is usually made of aluminum or polycarbonates. They are chosen because they have a good strength-to-weight ratio. Softside luggage is made of a variety of materials, including vinyl, cotton, polyester, leather and other durable materials. These materials are chosen because they are lightweight, flexible and durable. Features: The features offered on softside and hardside luggage are nearly identical. They both often offer wheels and extendable handles for convenience when carrying the luggage. Inside, they can have an array of pockets for holding toiletries or preventing clothes from getting wrinkled. What can be different is that softside luggage typically has several pockets that are accessible without opening the suitcase. Also, softside luggage almost always uses zippers to hold it close, but hardside luggage will have some type of latch to secure it. Price: Many factors determine the cost of luggage; one of which is the materials it is made of, but features, size, brand and other factors play a part as well. Not all hard materials are the same and not all soft materials are the same, but on average, the initial cost of hardside luggage is going to be higher than the initial cost of comparable softside luggage. One thing to consider though is value. If you are a frequent flyer, the initial cost of hardside luggage might be offset by its longevity. Use: If you are someone who keeps their luggage close to them and will only take a carry-on with you, the lightweight, flexibility of softside luggage might be better for you. The rigid shape of a hardside case doesn't always conform to the shape of an overhead bin; however, if you like to check your bags, hardside luggage is less likely to be damaged when thrown around in the holding area and will keep its contents from getting crushed when another bag gets thrown on top of it. Bottom line: When it comes down to it, both softside luggage and hardside luggage do the same basic thing. But the choice is about you and what you want. Do you want something that is incredibly durable and will protect everything inside of it? Or would you rather have luggage that is more flexible and lightweight?
