This rolling backpack looks very handsome. Fabrics and zipper are quite well made. However, the wheel-cover and strap conversion mechanisms are not well thought out. This unit was used by a 3rd grader for very light load. To my surprise, the handle extension mechanism started to fall apart after 6 months of use and became completely unusable after 8 months. I purchased a CalPak freeze zone rolling back pack at the same time for my middle schooler daughter. In comparison, the Calpak unit, which cost $6 more, has a very smart design for wheel cover. My daughter loaded up that bag with heavy load of textbooks on daily basis and dragged it through many city blocks, yet that one is still in perfect condition. My experience with CalPak is generally very positive. My recommendation? Don't buy this one.
i have had no problem at all with this item.my transaction was fast and shipping was just as fast.i am pleased with this product and would reccomend it to everyone.
This backpack is just what my son wanted for school. He loves the colors. The backpack is well made. This is a great value for the money. We looked at rolling backpacks in local stores, a comparable backpack would be $50 and up. My only caution would be that it can me a little heavy and my son has a little struggle getting in the car with it. I would recommend it for 3rd grad on up.
The bag is okay, however if you fill the bag, it tips over. The front feet are to far back, and do not provide support when you put things in the front pouch. It will fall over onto its front.
Ordered this for my son who is a very small 7th grader and who carries half his weight in books and binders in the backpack. This bag has fit most of his things -- it is tall inside and he is able to stack a few smaller books on top of the binders and still zip it closed. The only negative is that it tips forward when it is full. My son gets really aggravated by that, but I think it's the nature of the beast because the front pocket extends over the front legs. I haven't found a rolling book bag yet that doesn't do that. Overall, though, we're very pleased with this purchase.
I purchased this bag for my 4th grader. The price was excellent, and it was a good size for her. A few months into the school year the screws came off the handle. It later broke completely. Not worth the hassle of finding her an alternative.
Simple Review...Very UnHappy! Thank God for Warranty! I will say the Company has been great on the Warranty side...so it just the backpack I am giving the NEGATIVE review. I purchased 2 of these backpacks...in 60 days the first backpack failed. The handle would not retract and the base (plastic support) had broken. So I put to use backpack #2....less than 30 days later BROKEN. The handle completely fell apart and yes again the plastic support at the base of the backpack broke. So ONE is the lowest score I could provide...so there you go. ***Now the positive (yes I do have one). Olympia, the company that makes the backpacks have been AWESOME. I kept paper work, tags and receipt...contacted company and for $ 9.50 for each backpack (to cover postage) I will be getting TWO new backpacks. They have graciously offered me a CHOICE of backpack so I won't get stuck with this "STINKER." That is GREAT...most companies give you Like and Kind or downgrade your purchase....I fee Olympia is stepping up and trying to Please ME the customer. How RARE is that these days? So don't choose this backpack, but CHOOSE this company! They personally (the company) said the RP-1005 is one of their BEST backpacks. Plain but almost NO warranty issues...so there you go...hope it helps...Good Luck fellow backpack shoppers!
I purchased 2 for my 2 kids, an 8th grader and a 6th grader, in August. Both kids have a lot of books so the backpacks carry a full load. The 8th grader has the red color and it still works fine. The 6th grader has the blue and has had problems with the handle from early on. The screws came out on the top and the handle gets stuck in the up position. It was a great price but the aggravation wasn't worth it.
I am very pleased with this bag. The description that was given was very accurate. This is a great bag for a college student. I have recommended it and Overstock.com to my class.
I purchased this backpack for my 6th grader. It was good looking and roomy. The body also seemed durable enough. But it only lasted one week before the handle broke. When I contacted customer service to tell them what happened, they were very helpful. They said the backpack was probably defective. So, I returned it and they sent another to replace it. In the interim, I purchased a very inexpensive small one for my son to use until the new one arrived. He ended up using it for about 4 months before the body finally wore out and needed to be replaced. No big deal, I thought. I have the first one's replacement waiting in the wings! Well, guess what? It lasted two weeks before breaking in the exact same place -- the handle. At first it was just hard to pull up and retract. Later, it just came apart all together. Admittedly, my son has a lot of books. Most middle schoolers do. But I am of the opinion that if the body is roomy enough to accept all of them, the handle should be durable enough to remain functional. Today, I purchased a fourth backpack for my son. It was comparable to the cost of this one, but the main difference is the T-style, rather than the U-style, handle. I have since learned that T-style handles are far more durable than U-style ones, so I will only be purchasing only those from now on. If this new doesn't work, we are going to a suitcase model. Don't waste your money on this model.
I purchased this for my child for school. At first I was quite pleased. But as it was used, my opinion changed. It constantly tipped over due to the weight of the books. After two months the handle stopped working. After three months, one of the front support legs broke, and now it doesn't stand up at all. I am quite disappointed in this backpack, and I suggest that you don't buy it.
I was very pleased with the look, style, size and price of this backpack. My daughter is in 6th grade I purchased it for her. She used the backpack and within two weeks of using this rolling backpack the handle came off. We sent it back and got a replacement it lasted a little over a month. The handle would not go up or down it was stuck. Now my daughter has her third backpack I hope this one at least makes it to the end of the school year, I doubt it thought because it is only December. I think this particular model has a defect in the handle. I have purchased backpacks by Olympia before and I was very pleased with the other model. I am very upset that this one is such a dud.
My son is very happy with his backpack. I am very pleased with the delivery and price. Thaks
It is a little big for fourth grade but it is Excellent backpack.
I got this for my son at the start of middle school. After about 3 weeks, the first problems appeared (difficulty in getting handle up and down). Another week or so and the the entire handle snapped off. What a complete waste of money! Save your $$$ and look elsewhere.
I was very disappointed in this backpack. It started to fall apart after only two weeks of use. First the handle would not go down, then the whole handle detached from the backpack. I would not purchase another Olympia backpack.
I needed to buy a rolling backpack, as my heavy college load was doing some serious damage to my back. This bag is very roomy, it holds all my books and purse with room to spare. I would say it is too big for elementary school use, but suitable for a studious high school student. It appears well made and quite sturdy. It does not seem to be in any danger of tipping over when not in use. My only complaint is that there are not smaller pockets to hold pens, calculator, and such. Be sure to stow away the back straps when using the rolling feature- they consistently catch in the wheels despite my best attempts to tie them off. A terrific deal for the quality and price!
I bought this for my daughter, and at first was very pleased. It fit all of her heavy books. However, after about a month, the handle bent and then broke. We are unable to fix it. I believe it is a very poor design.
I use this bag for the Gym. Ilike the bag- has lots of room I can fit all my stuff in it- My problem is that it's a little too wide to fit in the gym locker -I have to squeeze it in the locker to make it fit. I wish it has a few more pockets on the inside as well- otherwise it is a very well made durable bag.
I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY 12 YEAR OLD SON AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS VERY ROOMY THE HANDLE LASTED LESS THAN A WEEK
