I originally had some trepidation when I saw the difference in weight between this and other bags. However, I carry a LOT of weighty stuff at times plus a laptop so I took a chance.I am very pleased. The small looking compartment on the front is deceiving. It holds my keys, my MP3 player with larger headphones plus the great little speaker and wire I got from Overstock recently. If I had a small phone instead of a touch screen, it would fit also and it is very easy to get to. Other handy pockets partway up the bag so that all the weight doesn't descend to the bottom.I have stuffed it to the brim twice now. Once for work with a lot of music and two student instruments which fit conveniently inside along with a piccolo and electronic stuff. It did not feel too heavy and it stayed put on my back. Water botle did not fall out of the side mesh pocket. Even stuffed my whole pocketbok in and waited to see if the zippers would zip. No problem.Laptop area is well padded as is the other compartment I put the instruments in.It may be light at 1lb plus, but this is some super material and built to last and thoughtfully designed
I am very pleased with this backpack. I wanted something professional looking but sturdy and practical, and this is exactly that. It has a fairly slim profile for a backpack (not as slim as some others, for sure), but it fits a TON of stuff - my 15 inch laptop, power cord, lunch pail, wallet, phone, keys, and more fit in here without any trouble. It's comfortable to wear with plenty of padding on the straps, and the pretty teal color of the lining is a nice touch.
